Only difference is the U-ish shape of tread...same setup and pattern.

Hey nouseforaname, how bad do your tires throw rocks. I have heard that is a set back to the bfg. Do they chip your paint or crack the windshields of people following too close. Debating on those generals, don't do alot of towing. The wife and kids are into the horse thing and occassionly pull heavy horse trailer but not very much. Should I get a set of mud flaps before going with these tires?

Well Myself, my parents, and all of my friends live back dirt roads covered in shale....and I've never had a problem. Occasionally you will get a couple rocks stuck....but I can't see it being any worse than BFG's.....it's like the same tread depth, spacing etc.... Heck I had Cooper ST's I paid 170-180 a tire...and they threw rocks like crazy. I personally have mud flaps and running boards...but I'm anal about my paint. All I can say is....$130.00 a tire for General, $173.00 a tire for BFGoodrich....that's a $172.00 difference for all 4 tires....and General has a better rating. I can't justify paying that much for for a tire that has a tiny curve difference in the tread mark over the Generals...plus they are load rated E....and I can tell you I've DEF. overloaded the bed of my truck a couple times with Coal, shale, dirt, weights (like a whole weight room...no joke), etc...and never had one issue and it drove fine.

Now....the one advantage BFGoodrich has over General is that they DO make a load rated E tire in a 285....but it's $224.00 a tire....and honestly, if you don't tow extremely heavy everyday....a 285 in a D will be fine..

If you want good looks but still able to go somewhere in the snow you need a tire with sipping like the BFG A/T or General A/T. however there are a few mud tires that have this as well the most popular and best looking is the Toyo Tires - Open Country M/TŪ

Only bad part is, your looking at over a grand for 4 tires and the majority of people say you get 10-20 thousand out of them. I did look at these and they seem nice though.

10-20k isnt worth $1000 in tires for a daily driver to me personally. they sell generals almost everywhere around upstate NY so i'm covered. my wife got 45Kmi out of her last set of BFG a/t's and that would have been more if she didnt slack off on rotating them towards the end. they started cupping and wearing uneven.

well think of it this way if you got something from the super swamper line and spent like 650 to 800 on a set of 4 tires and 10000mi later there blad becasue your running down the road in a 7000lb truck how much did you save?

but who really cares we are all guitly of helping to decress the life of our tires from time to time if you know what i mean?

no no, your right. with the amount of off roading i actually do i have to make the right decision and go with the A/T's. i was also looking at a real nice jeep locally with 35's on it. baja claws. i was thinking if i bought it i should change it to A/T's also.
