I know theres been a million threads of this sort and im sorry in advance. there used to be a good chart someone wrote up but i cant find it again. But anyways i got an LB7 and im about due for new rubber from my stock skinneys and i have a buddy with an LB7 too and he threw some 285's on there and mine has a a leveling kit, his doesn't. Wandering if i should be able to fit 285-75-16 on without any trimming. he did and he said his doesn't rub, but he is not the most mechanically inclined and probably wouldn't know tire rub if it bit him in the rear. Just wandering if anyone else had tried this. Thanks again.
if you've got the leveling kit done you're in good shape. I'm running 285's with 2-1/2 cranks of the torsion bars and a little trimming, but my front still sits lower than a leveled truck.

My guess is, if you are completely leveled....you might have to do minor trimming to the lower valance on the front fender...but nothing big at all. And just remember, running 285's on a stock wheel can damage the wheel....so be careful.

OKay, i thought id heard that it can damage your stock wheels, I have the alloys. How do 285's damage your wheel? just wandering. I really wasnt wanting to get new wheels, but might have too.
I don't know where the thread is....but Tyreboyz posted up pics of a damaged wheel due to 285's. It honestly looked like someone took a hammer and beat the snot out of the lip on the wheel. They are just too big and wide and compress the wheel easily. But if you get an aftermarket one, they are wider and can handle more.
If I'm correct a 16X8 or 8X16...(dont' know the order) is the size you want for 285's.

O damn, i see. Thats what i figured, just to much tire for the rim. Well i wander if i could get away with 265's or so. Hmm.. im not sure. i imagine ill do a little more research before i get new rubber.

I've had 285/75/16 on my stock wheels for about 37k miles without any damage to my wheels. That may be because I'm lucky. But its working so far and they sure look better than the stock 245's and the second set of 235/85's I had. No leveling kit yet and had to trim just a little of the valance. Still rubs occasionally when backing up, not a big deal to me.
Cool deal, glad to hear another success story. i think some ppl get their rim destroyed from maybe too much air ran in the tires. Iv heard that will to it to them. But glad to hear thats working for ya. Im def, going for some 285's. Ill do a little trimming, but the leveling kit was well worth it i thoguht. Sure looked alot better after i put it on.
i bought my truck with 285's on stock wheels. it looks like stock ride height but i would imagine that he turned the bars a crank or two. but i love them, they don't rub, and they really set the truck off IMO. hope this helps...
