Need opinions on aftermarket tire pressure monitoring systems

Hey guys! I'm giving serious consideration to installing a tire pressure monitoring system on my '05 GMC 2500HD. It's for safety and to squeeze out every last MPG, or more so to prevent the loss of any MPG by keeping a close eye without having to squat next to each tire daily. I'm in need of new tires before hunting season so I figured I might as well do this at the same time.

So has anyone had any good luck with such a system? I've searched around here but most posts regard factory systems that my truck is too old to have come from the factory with, unless it's a factory retrofit?

I want in-tire monitoring also, not the crappy valve stem caps that someone could just walk off with.

The few I'm considering are:

1) Hella TC-400 Tire Pressure Monitor System ( Hella TC-400 Tire Pressure Monitor System ) The only thing I'm worried about with this one is "Not recommended for use with applications requiring a base pressure of 70psi or higher" because I'll rock up to 80psi when towing, which is only two or three times per year so it might not be the end of the world. hmmmmm....

2) Orange Electronic Retro-Fit Tire Pressure Monitoring System ( Orange Electronic Retro-Fit Tire Pressure Monitoring System ) I like the display a HELL of a lot more than the Hella one above but the power cord is gaudy as all hell. I would definitively snake that though the dash for power. Again, the 0 to 76psi I can live with for over 99% of driving.

3) Questionably Nameless Brand Car Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS) ( Car Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS) [A4-A4S-03699] - $181.31 ) I kind of dig the mounting behind the rear view mirror, but without seeing it in person I can't say for sure. It's sold in dollars but looks very European and doesn't mention whether it can be switched from Bar and kPa to PSI. That bothers me a lot. F the metric system, I deal with that enough at work.

4) Hopkins 30100VA nVision Tire Pressure Monitoring System ( Amazon.com: Hopkins 30100VA nVision Tire Pressure Monitoring System: Automotive ) Terrible user interface. Silly valve stem cap system. Grrrrrrrr.....

Well, I searched around a bunch and found some really cool motorcycle systems (hmmmm.... my Vmax could some monitoring!) but kinda came up short. After the first couple search pages on froolge.com it quickly became all spam (old school ebay style spam too).

So, if anyone has any first hand experience on the subject I'm all ears. Thank you all for listening to me rant, have an awesome father's day! - Erik

(NOTE: I did find a pretty cool trailer tire monitoring system, despite using valve stem cap sensors: Doran RV 360 )

a pressure checker, a once a month manual pressure check, and spending the $200 on fuel should save you more $$$ then installing a TPM from scratch!
