the bigger the better is what i say,but thats not always the best rule to follow.

Have just bought a 2006 hd crew cab 2500 4x4 duramax and want to get some new tires i prefer the 285/75/16.
Have the stock rims with 245/75/16 and need to know if the stock rims will work. I am towing a tt that weighs 6000 lbs. Also no off road so would want a good highway tire. Thanks, joe
I run BFG 285/75-R16 at "KO"'s on stock rims
and I am really happy with them...
My mileage didn't suffer all that much, at least not as much as I thought that it would...
I did have ONE problem, I had to trim the bottom corner of the bumper,
they wanted to rub... once done I had no other issues...
I'm running 35's and barely getting 13mpg. My last Duramax I put a set of 285's and adjusted the torsion bars up slightly to get away from scrubbing, but I had to get the front end realigned.
I am running 285s on my truck with aftermarket rims and no rubbing...I don't have front mudflaps on my truck and I did do some minor trimming and ziptied the fenderliner in a few locations. With the stock rims i was able to just trim the mudflaps, reshape the front of the driver's fenderliner, and ziptie the parking brake cable back along with the fenderliner in front of it. I have been getting 18.5 mpg the past 2 tanks in my truck....I changed programming and started driving 5mph slower on the highway. The mileage drop wasn't that bad. You have to remember to correct your distance traveled because your odometer and speedo will be off. Mine was off by about 4-5 mph at highway speeds. My speedo read 60, but I was doing 65 verified by GPS. Here's a pic of my truck with stock rims and tires:

Mine and your truck are almost the same, except mine is ext cab instead of quad cab, I am not sure why mine rubed, I put the 285's on stock rims, and ran the tortion bars up, and they still rubbed right at the outside corner of the front bumper, but nowhere else...
the "Corrected" MPG on the highway, with fueling up , getting up to speed and running 350 miles unloaded at an average of 70mph, I averaged 25.4MPG...
Now that is with filling the tank to the top of the neck, running the miles, then refilling to the top again and doind the math...
around town I get 18.7AVG,
but, I take it really easy on my truck, and I have a 6-spd manual and I shift slow without the clutch for the most part which is really easy to do with a D-D from south bend...
I also keep my foot out of 99% of the time...
mine are the KO's. I bought them through AAFES here in alaska. I had to order them. I got a set from a friend and his aren't white lettered. As far as rubbing on the outside corner of the bumper, I did trim mine a little with stock rims....just the inside corner. I took more off when I went to aftermarket rims....you have to look real close to see where I cut the bumper though.

What did you use to trim the inside corner where you had rubbing? I just had my 285's installed on stock wheels today. They look great but I did notice a bit of rubbing on the sharp turns with the front fender. I am trying to research fixing that problem. thanks
I just wish I had gotten the white letter,
I guess those will come when these wear out...
but I had to use a Sawsaw,
took off about 3/4 of an inch right at that sharpp corner...
and have not had a problem since...
