stock rims on 285/75/16 will they fit

Have just bought a 2006 hd crew cab 2500 4x4 duramax and want to get some new tires i prefer the 285/75/16.
Have the stock rims with 245/75/16 and need to know if the stock rims will work. I am towing a tt that weighs 6000 lbs. Also no off road so would want a good highway tire. Thanks, joe

Yes they will work but you mileage is going to suffer with that size tire.

Hello and welcome to the forum!

Ya the stock wheel will work actually with less rubbing than a wider tire. However the only downfall is you'll have to crank up the torsion bars and get the truck aligned. You'll also have to trim the valance a bit. As BigRedChevy said it will hurt your mileage with that big of a tire. On my 06 it went from 20 highway to 16 and 16 town to 13.

For tires I just went down from a 285 to a 265 (due to mileage) and bought a Nitto terra grappler. Im real happy with the tire they look aggressive but dont have much road noise and handle well.

if you want the look the 285's are the ones to go with and yes they will work on your stock wheels but if you want to save a little on fuel economy but still have a taller tire go with the 265's...we have sevaral tires shops and i have done hundreds of tires on GM trucks and as a rule a 32-33" tires are max on them with out having to do a lift but after that you will need a lift kit.

285 75 R16

I run 285 75 R16's on stock wheels. They clear everything just fine and you don't need to trim anything. You also wouldn't need to do an alignment if you didn't mess with the torsion bars, that changes the ride adversely IMO. Just change the tires and your on the road. I'm using the Falken's, awesome tire!

I couldn't stand the rear end being so HIGH so I got Belltech 3" drop shackles. It rides like it should and looks great! The other option is torsion Keys but you narrow the front track and I've never been a fan. I would do the rear shackle any day and it only cost $100 through Summit, part # 6403. Easy install as well....

I had 285's on my truck and my mileage went down about a mile per gal. Get 265's they look good and doesn't really change your mileage. Good Luck
