Looking at New Tires - What are your thoughts?

I'm sizing up from 265 to 285 soon, and I'm very torn between tires. It is always so hard for me to choose, but it's still a lot of fun. Now, here we go.

- I really fell in love with the last set of tires I put on my old truck. Dick Cepek FC-II's. Sort of an all terrain, mud terrain hybrid. Ride nice, but look aggressive. The wore great too. I don't know if they will wear any differently under a heavier truck. I know to get the different load class, but still.

- I used to have BFG AT's too. I hated them. I got maybe 15 or 20K out of them. Of course, it was back during my teenage days, so I probably drove like an ass. Everyone else loves them, but I thought they sucked. I'm not sure I want tires everyone else has.

- I like the Dueler A/T Revo's as well. I heard they ride outstanding, and wear great too. But, I think they may not look aggressive enough.

Any other suggestions, or advice? I like to really weigh my options, so feel free to put your two cents in. Have a good Friday night, boys.

I have the Nitto terra grapplers and only put 1000 miles on them but Im happy with them so far! I had the bridgestone duellers in a 285 and I didnt like them. They cost $60 a tire more than the nitto and they wore out in 15,000 miles.

Just check the cepek's before you buy I thought they only came in a 6ply? I think 90% of the 285's are 8 ply though.

The Dueler's aren't enough in the mud. Not aggressive enough. The BFg's will last if you rotate. My Nitto's are ok but I don't think I'll get them again. I'm thinkin of going back to BFG's.

My family has always had good luck with the Nitto Terra Grapplers. I don't know where you live but these tire work great in the snow and the sand. However they are not the greatest in the mud. Oh also great in the rain. Solid tire IMO.

The last 4 sets I had were:*no mudder tires included.

Firestone ATX (possibly discontinued or renamed)- Pros:great tire, very pleased. Very good wear. I believe they are molded in the USA.
Cons: It's a Japanese company so you know where the profits go back to.

Cooper Discoverer ATR. Pros:Great tire. Very good traction in all conditions. American made and owned. Glad to support American workers and save a job.
Cons: none

Cooper HT plus: Pros: only ran these on my summer wheels but ride, traction, wear, noise were all very good. American made and owned. Glad to support American workers and save a job.
Cons: none

Michelin LTX m/s - Pros:wear was okay. fair tire at best.
Cons: terrible traction on wet or snow. Overpriced! More impressed with Firestone and Cooper.

Bottom line is: a tie between Cooper and Firestone but, I choose Cooper because it's an American company. Of course the HT plus is a street tire tread design so they were the quietest of the bunch otherwise, the noise with all the All Terrain tires was about the same.

Note: I currently have Cooper S/T on the truck (winter tires) and just yesterday I ordered another set of Cooper HT plus for my new 20" wheels.

Another side note: I have had several different vehicles (trucks, Trans Am, Corvette) come with Goodyear tires and you couldn't get me to run Goodyear if you gave me the friggin' things. I have never had a decent set of tires that said Goodyear on the side. The last vehicle that I took delivery of that came with Goodyear on from the factory went right to the tire shop and I had them pulled off. Poor wear, very poor traction and they vibrated badly when worn. Nothing but junk in my opinion.

I have the Revo's right now and LOVE them. I've gotten about 40k out of them so far. They'll probably last another 10k or so. Really good tire IMO. They're quiet, fairly agressive, a good compromise for city/offroad. And I'm in muddy snow covered cornfields every winter with a box full of goose decoys. Never had a flat, or a leak. Also NEVER had to add air to any of them after 3 years!! Mine are 265's but the 285's look way more agressive, I think so anyway. They're awesome in the rain, practically impossible to hydroplain with. Great in snow too, but doesn't do you much good in GA. Only con... I dont think they make a load range E in 285, only 265.

I know when these are worn out, I'll be buying another set!!!
