i dont know whats scarier seeing a bulge in a tire that big or the fact that people will still drive miles before they replace the tire.

Wow I have seen some tires with buldges but none anywhere NEAR that big. I have seen small buldges from a screw going in the tire then cutting a steel cord along the way. Buy I have no clue what would cause some buldges like you posted. It is a extremly scary problem though. I couldnt imagine going down the highway towing a skid steer and having a rear blow.

I fixed a customers tire once at our shop. He was going down the highway and had a flat so he towed it in. We pulled it in found a hole in the tire and plugged it (didnt remove it). I started to add water and I heard rubber scretching then BANG! he customer ran the inner sidewall thin and it blew. I almost s&^t myself..... and couldnt hear for a week!

we call them pregnant tires, only with not such a cool ending..

some reasons why these happen, from hitting pott holes known as impact break, curbing, over loading, under aired, running on garvel causes ply seperations also and my favorite snagging the bead while installing the tire..we have these kind of things happen everyday here at our shop but perty all of them lead back to one of these factors but there are a few tires more prone to do this then others.when it comes down you should check your tires before moving it everytime to avoid this from happening or when you get a vibration check your tires...

my guess is that Destination MT was spun on a rock or something sharp while out mudding or rock climbing...never had a Firestone Destination do that unless that happens.
i once put a set of Dayton Timberline MT on for a guy and about 4 days later he shows up with his tires all cut up but after some questions the truth was revealed, doing tug-a-wars on dirt can have its side affects like digging into the dirt only to hit some stones and rip the tread of the tires..

i had a dunlop buldge out on me. the tires were on the truck when i bought it. it looked like an egg. i got michelins on it now. they get good grip, but the dmax still got the tires slipping with a 25k trailer off the pintle. its got over a 2k tounge weight. any work truck(aka ford crap) had problems.
