oversize tire question

I have a early 2004 crew cab, I remember there being a stink about putting larger(taller) than stock tires on these rigs and the allison throwing codes. Has this been resolved, or am I stuck with the stock tire size.

you'll be fine as far as the truck and tranny is but some side affects are lower fuel economy and throwing the speedo off a little and it will greatly depend what size tire you go with, for instance a 265-75R16 wont hurt fuel economy and won't realy throw the speedo off but looks better then the stock tires versus a 285-75R16 looks realy good but drops you back roughly 1-2MPG and throws your speedo off by 3-4MPH.
the 285's will clear if you turn the torsion bars up.

hmmm, there was a gm service bulletin about not doing warranty service on the trans if the tires were oversize. (I used to work for a Dealer, I have seen the bulletin) And I have seen oversize tires throw codes when pulling trailers.

My brother runs 37's on his 04 and at 60 (truck speedo) he's actually going about 70-71, we corrected it with my EFI Live and it started throwing the ABS Light. There wasn't anything we could do to fix it except put it back to stock speedo settings. I think that the tires were just so big the abs didn't know what to do (out of parameters???). I think there are other boxes that will correct it but I couldn't with EFI Live.

Just the info I was looking for. I just bought an 05 max and put new tires on the next day. I went one size up to the 265-75R16's. Do I need to do anything to the speedo or anything else. What about towing. Why are the stock tires so small?? Also do I have anything to be concerned about towing my 7k pound travel trailer with the new tires?? Thank for any help..

i wouldn't worry about the speedo being off since according to my GPS it was off roughly 1MPH with the 265's versus stock tires..
no the 265's will not affect towing trailers with your Duramax.
