EGR Questions

New to Duramaxes and the forum so sorry if a bad question but I have an 02 LB7 throws an egr code once in while. Looks like it might have an EGR cooler that I think may be leaking. But from what I read the 02 didn't have an EGR Cooler. So I am wondering do they don't they have an EGR Copler? Thank you

what is the code it is throwing?

And, since you are new to the DMax platform this thread may be of interest.

In that thread in reference to the Trans fluid I think yours uses Dex III

It has thrown P040 and P0401 at times. Usually only on long trips.

sounds like a sticky EGR valve, and yes you have an EGR valve and cooler. The cooler is necessary to cool the hot exhaust gasses being pumped back into the engine.

First Id check the connection and/or the wiring to the valve.

You can try cleaning the valve but if that does not work you can replace it. Not too difficult. Removing he EGR Cooler is another ball of wax.

When I did injectors on my California spec truck, I discovered a crimped hose near its connection to the vacuum pump. Fixed my EGR codes.

Removing he EGR Cooler is another ball of wax.

Yep, fasteners against the firewall.
