LB7: California EGR Delete

Hey guys. I have searched all of the forums and all over the interwebs for how to delete the California and N.E. emissions systems on an LB7. The first 4-5 posts on every board about LB7 EGR seems to be "da hur LB7's don't have EGR".

Well, some do. So here's two ways to defeat the system.

Easy way- Disable the EGR system and forget it. (better for Californians who have to go through smog.)
1. Shut off the codes w/ EFI live.
2. Pull the vacuum line from the EGR Valve and plug it.
3. (optional) Block exhaust gasses from getting into the intake. This is optional because the valve needs vacuum to open. By plugging the vacuum line you are no longer routing exhaust into the engine.

You can remove how ever much of the rest of the system as you please, but note you may fail smog inspection if the inspector know's what he's looking for.

Longer way- Completely remove the EGR system.
1. Shut off the codes w/ EFI live.
2. Remove vacuum pump.
3. Replace Cali serpentine belt with federal belt.
4. Install federal passenger side up pipe, or cut off riser and weld shut.
5. Remove EGR Cooler.
6. Block intake where EGR cooler used to be attached.
7. Install cooling hose between output of heater core and engine.
8. Remove all the vacuum lines and solenoids from on top of the filter head.
9. Throw all of that crap into the nearest Prius owners lawn.

Parts list
-Passenger side up pipe(or weld the riser closed)
-Federal Y bridge - available from SoCal Diesel
-EGR Cooler block-
-Serpentine belt- http://www.amazon.com/Goodyear-4061175-Gatorback-Poly-V-Belts/dp/B000EQ1ETG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1400640898&sr=8-1&keywords=4061175-24" of 5/8" hose rated for coolant

Short Video. I'll do a DIY write up with videos once I amass all the parts.

I went through today and deleted the intake air heater on my lunch break.
1. Disable the IAH codes w/ EFI live
2. Unbolt IAH 10mm connection then remove the wire from the relay assembly, I believe its 10mm as well.
3. Remove the IAH from the intake.
4. Plug the IAH hole with an M22-1.5 drain plug.

You can get a plug from a few places with a tap for a boost gauge.

Consult the Google Oracle for further results.

I also deleted the vacuum system today.

To delete the Smog pump-
1. Pull inner fender well liner and passenger side front tire
2. Pull off the intake tube and filter housing as well as support bracket underneath
3. Pull off passenger side inter-cooler boost tube
4. Remove serpentine belt
5. Pull the vacuum tube from the fitting on the smog pump
6. Remove 3 12mm nuts from the studs holding the smog pump on and remove the smog pump
7. Install new serpentine belt, like so

Very nice write up. This will help many people. I should have done a write up when I deleted my wonderful Cali LB7.

They also have a different exhaust housing on the turbine side of the turbo as well as more restrictive heads.

My big question is how much more restrictive are the heads? I already did the y bridge and up pipe as well as fed turbo and 3 inch down pipe. But I've always wandered how much of a difference will the heads make

Probably not a noticeable difference.

I dyno'd 615 with Cali heads, stock gaskets and no head studs.

Yea I'm not worried about it. I have a lot of other things to buy before I have to worry about 30cfm of flow.

Good write up, I already have it blocked but the EGR will be coming out for injectors and then not going back in again.

These two parts diagrams show the EGR and two piece y-bridge.
