2002 LB7 Turbo

My 17 year old LB7 turbo is finally giving out with 280,000 miles on it. I'm considering three options and would like some feedback.

Option 1: turbo rebuild, about $200.

Option 2: drop in turbo, about $1000.

Option 3: WC Fab kit, S300 turbo, new up pipes, EGR delete, Banks intercooler, about $6000.

Share you thoughts on these options and your experience.

Thanks.

Depends on what you want to do with the truck. Also unless your stock ic is bad you dont need a new one so that will knock 1k+ of your s300 kit price

I want my truck to run well for another 17 years. It's my daily driver, heavy hauler, deer lease runner, do it all machine. I want it to run well and last long.

How's it going bad? Curious because I have 401k miles on my 2002 turbo and it's still going strong. Bearings?

Rebuild, or hit up yellow Chevy on here or dd. Bet he has a ihi laying around or would throw one together for you. He might even have one for sale on here or dd currently. Or call mark at Danville performance. Hes probbaly got some too

Bearings for sure. You can hear them screeching when it tries to spin up.

I appreciated the references. I don't have a problem finding parts, it's the best value for the cost is what I'm struggling with.

I guess there is a 4th option of rebuild, new up pipes and EGR delete. That might make everything last longer and perform as well or better.

Here is a quick read for a post I responded to a bit ago that may help you, you mentioned "heavy Hauler". I give my input for my turbo upgrade experience hope it helps in your choices.

https://www.duramaxforum.com/forum/0...ed-wheel2.html

do the search for "yellow Chevy Turbo"

I am planning on swapping out for a different setup down the road. I like to DYI but sometimes it is just better to go with a proven setup from a pro, deciding on the direction you will go I think is the hardest choice to make. My truck will turn 220K next week and still loving it!

My truck is 100% Solar Powered! Petroleum is made up of dead Dino's that ate plants, plants eat sunlight. My truck is Solar powered!

Diesel is non-GMO, made with free range animals, Non-RoundUp ready plants, no added colors or flavors- organic at the source, antibiotic free, steroid free...

If you do choice option 3. Swap out the banks intercooler for an S400 turbo. While saving money. The intercooler is unnecessary.
