First time diesel buyer - LML what to look for?

2013 with 147k - single registered owner fleet truck used by the electric company. I was originally looking at LLY and LMM trucks, but price on this one is 12800 which seems great. I've done a ton of reading the past couple of days about the LML. Seem solid despite the CP4 (would add the exergy system saver until a CP3 swap).

Anything in particular I should do or look for when I go see the truck? Any help is truly appreciated.

Check the service records, give it the once over and kick the tires. I'd spend an extra minute or two checking the steering, suspension and brakes. If there are no service records on them, it will be some out of pocket expenses. Good luck.

LOL solid advice. I mean is there anything I should be expecting to almost certainly replace or be aware of at this mileage?

I've got some mechanic skills, but still fairly pretty new to the diesel world. That's all I can think of except maybe batteries. Hopefully, someone else will chime in.

Mine is fairly new, but I've read on the forum here that the serpentine belt tensioner has a habit of failing regularly on some of the engines.

The emissions are the weak point on the lml. Def/dpf you name it. This may or may not be a problem for your future plans.

Look at the tires. If they are worn on the outside then you may have some worn out steering/ suspension components.

Service records would be a great start. Being a company vehicle they may a solid book on it. Or not at all. This is a bit of a gamble, it could’ve been driven by an older foreman or a jerk off delivery driver. Look at the body and the subtle hints. If there are dents and signs of misuse and neglect then there may be a history of abuse of the vehicle and one could infer that the maintenance was done the same way.

Thanks for the info. I have no high numbers plans for it. Mostly just looking for a solid reliable work truck. Would like to delete and cp3 swap at some point. A dealership has actually taken control of it for sale and doesn’t have any of the records. I’m trying to find out which electric company and maybe they can possibly help me out there. Not a single dent on this one and looks surprisingly very clean all around especially for a work truck. The whole CP4 stuff is the main thing holding back at this point it seems. If I was to have it inspected are there any particular tests I should ask for?

So I am going to take a look tomorrow. I was just told that it's been deleted. Sounds like a dumb question, but with it being my first diesel... how do I tell?

No stupid questions my friend. We all started and we’re all glad to have learned from the help of DF and it’s members.

Take a look under the truck. Look for the big can called a dpf filter and the junk def injector WYE. If it’s gone then yup.

If it is deleted and you don’t have the autocal or name of the shop you will need to talk to someone about getting a tune that you know where it came from.
