Resonator question

I had the full delete completed and love it. Only problem is the droning on the highway. I have been looking at resonators. Problem is it is a 5" Jammo exhaust and the muffler is LONG. Dont have space for a 30" resonator. I do have space for a smaller one. What options do I have or what do you all suggest. Do I replace the muffler with a 30" resonator or just add a short one? I am okay with the loudness of the exhaust, but dont want it to get stupid loud if I dont use a muffler. I did see FTE makes a 17"-12" resonator (not sure what the 2 dimensions mean), but I could squeeze that in.

I put a 17" FTE resonator on my 5" straight pipe with my S300 turbo kit and it eliminated the drone a good bit and i am very satisfied with it. The drone of the S300 turbo compared to stock turbo was extremely loud...like unbearable. I am very pleased with how it turned out cause i wanted to still hear a louder exhaust note. Personally if you still wanted it to be on the louder side i would remove the muffler completely and just use the 17" or replace the muffler entirely and do a 30" by itself if you want it pretty quiet and no drone. Also, they do recommend mounting it as far forward as possible but on the LML but its a pain so i mounted it in front of where a muffler would be. From my research it seems that the muffler doesnt do anything for the drone but just the tone.

I have the 4” exhaust 17” FTE Resonator/muffler which did tone down the drone I had.
17” total tip to tip outside length with a 12” resonator in the middle.

When I put my stock cat back on that toned it down a little more and eliminated the stinky diesel exhaust smell.

The last thing I am trying to figur eout it whether to go with the 17" and keep the Jammo Muffler, or simply replace the muffler with a 30". Just dont know the sound difference.

Id do the 17" then if you aren't satisfied do a 30". At the end of the day whats 85 bucks wasted on a truck that youve paid to delete and tune along with all the other mods you may have paid for over the years.

Per FTE,
The closer you can get the FTE towards the engine the better it works to tone down the exhaust drone.
Mines just behind the 4bolt flange on the rear of the front pipe/stock cat there’s a short straight section in the mid-pipe.
I have a 14” magnaflow muffler just before the 3 bolt flange just before the rear axle, it didn’t do squat.

FTE resonator and Maganflow Muffler are designed entirely different. I know they do recommend mounting it as far forward as possible but i mounted my FTE 2-3 feet in front of the rear axle for ease of install and it cut my drone out of the S300 easily 80% and it had twice the drone the stock turbo did down the interstate.

Ok let me put this a different way.
I first deleted my stock muffler and DPF leaving only the stock cat, no drone.
Then when I deleted my cat for a not so quiet DE quiet tone front pipe I had mucho drone and stinky exhaust.
Being desperate I installed the 14” Magnaflow muffler where I mentioned and even added a 4” Magnaflow flowing cat in the DE quiet tone which didn’t help.

When I decided to try the 17” FTE the only open space I had was where I had already mentioned.
PER FTE, not my decision THEY TOLD ME IT WORKS BEST CLOSER TO THE ENGINE.
FTE actually suggested that I put it in the DE front pipe, this I did not want to do, the FTE will not help with stinky exhaust fumes.

All I was mentioning was what FTE told me.
Not a debate on where it works best, put it where ever you want, but I’m pretty sure FTE actually knows best.
Below is my DE Quiet Tone pipes, one with cat one without, both retired.

My apologies if i came off as an ass or arguing the fact of placement. I know they do recommend mounting it as far forward as possible, but i made a personal decision to mount it in the muffler location just for simplicity of install. A 17" may do wonders right after the downpipe, but that info i can't attest too as i mounted mine farther back. As far as my expereince with the 17" FTE in front of the rear axle 2-3 feet i am pleasantly surprised at how well it did canceling the drone and have no intention of moving it upward. It really comes down to personal preference and how far you want to go with install.
