2008 LMM Black Smoke

Hello All - I have a 2008 LMM with DPF delete with H&S tune. I noticed recently that every time I take off from a stop light or give it a little more gas on the freeway I’m seeing black smoke. It’s done this before but it’s never been as noticeable as what I’m seeing now. Any ideas?

Thanks

Might try to clean the mass air flow sensor.

Any loud hissing under the hood, could have a boost boot leak. Mine had a tear that I could only hear it while towing and as it got worse I started getting the black soot.

Haven’t noticed any hissing sound but I’ll check the boots. Thanks

Guess I’ll have to pressure test it. I did a visual of the boots and didn’t see any cracks or tears. Started at the one at the back/top (sorry, don’t know the names), removed it, looked good. Checked the down pipe drivers side, no issues there. Then checked the boot at the bottom drivers side. Although it seemed very thin I didn’t see or feel anything. Moved to the passenger side bottom boot, that felt fine. Where that boot connects to the plastic tube that connects to the engine, that connection between the plastic tube and engine seemed a little lose where I could kind of twist it. Not sure if that normal since I’m not sure how you would tighten that.

I had the exact same thing just happen to me. I am away from home so took it to a shop to have it looked at. They found a leak in a seal just before the inter-cooler. Not exactly sure which it was but they cleaned up the surfaces and reattached. Runs a lot better now and I can pull my 12K trailer without rolling coal like a semi. Like they told me, black smoke means un-burned fuel which is likely lack of air. I was happy they found what they did and that it was not the turbo.

YMMV
