Not auxiliary in the sense of operator controlled, or an add-on to be selected at order -- but works in addition to the coolant system.

No wonder the windows clear as soon as they do.

Is the info from somewhere in the upfitter docs or perhaps the service manual?
That was put and paste directly from the HVAC description and operation in GM Service Information.

The important part to remember is that the driver must have the temperature turned up at or close to HI.

And if it's an 'auto' system set at say 70F, with ambient below freezing?

I'd imagine it will have normal levels of heat/defrost on unless the driver turns the heat up to HI. I am not sure and it's just speculation based on how my truck seems to operate, but that's how the system seems to work in my truck.

Thank you for this info. I'm glad to hear the DMax has this option. Especially when it was -40 in Calgary this past week.
It always amazes me that you guys can find this info. I try but it seems like a few guys here have insider info, and I/We appreciate it.

As I said I have no idea where I read/heard it, don't know if it was an article or video, but I knew it came from somewhere.

In fact the reason it stood out is Ram and GM offer it standard, but Ford only does it as a $250 option

Depends on the location for Fords, IIRC any vehicle ordered in northern states come equipped with the heater and dual alternators.

Someone also asked if the heater works in auto, trucks that are equipped with automatic climate controls will command the supplemental heater whenever necessary.
