1996 GMC Suburban 2500 no start

This morning I jumped into my burb and turned the key. All the dash lights came on, it made its normal tone, the wait to start light came on and went off like it should, but when I turned the key to start... nothing. no clicks, no starter engagement nothing except the brake light came on. I jumped out check the grounds on the battery tight and jumped in. cycled the key nothing. tried again. fired right up. drove it to where I was going turned it off. came back out fired right up. and later that afternoon same thing absolutely nothing. cant get it to go again. it seems like its some sort of interlock and its odd to me that only the brake light comes on when the key goes to the start position. I should also note that my drivers window motor failed with the window down so I cant roll it up. I live in Hawaii so it gets rained on a bit, But the steering column usually stays dry. The brakes are pretty bad. Would bad brakes cause some interlock to not start the whole truck?

Well over-thought that one. Went out and gave the starter solenoid a tap and she fired right up 3 times in a row.
