Haha I know right. I just had to put a trans, valve cover gaskets and a few other things in the girls jeep so I'm hurting. That was my fuel and air money damnit:rofl
to make the title sound legit i need a motor right?
well i found a guy within the Texas Diesel Scene page on FB and came across this 98' 12 Valve with a 47RE trans still attached in Mineral Wells TX for $1500. After talking with a few 12 valve owners i know they said JUMP ON IT, so thats what i did
the guy works at a diesel shop out there that his grandfather owns, and the motor and trans came out of some elderly guys truck that he claimed had around 200K
im just glad i found one with everything i need including the P pump!!
my only concern now is getting the trans to work, because i'll have to get a stand alone computer, and by doing an easy google search ATS comes up....but then they say that you need their valve body
now were talking $1572 for the controller, and $650 for the valve body (from reading online, since the ATS PN doesnt show a price)
but the mechanic mentioned something about a 47RH that might fix my problems??!! I'm definitely new to the dodge world hno
originally i was going to use my TH350 and buy an $800 adapter plate, but i'd much rather use the trans it came with, but i just have to weigh the options and pricing, and learn some more!
After getting it to work the following Monday morning, i used one of our 5 ton cranes to pull the beast out of my bed
it sat until the next day, because i wanted to bring one of my trailers to get it lower and easier to remove when it came time to use an engine hoist
i would have used my gantry crane in my garage (built with a 3 ton hoist, 3/8" chain and quick links, and 8"x8" wood beams) but the inside width of the crane was 82", and the outside width of my trailer was 87" Downerrr
after sparking the interest of a diesel mechanic and a guy that lives near me who's also a fellow 12 valve owner (guy doing all the work on the driverside of the motor), we got it to crank
I would stay with the 47re, the 47rh isn't computer controlled. I would call Dave goerend in Idaho or Iowa (can't remember which) he is the Mike L for Cummins guys hahah I had his converter in my Cummins Trans. He will be able to steer you in the right direction.
Gotta love the 12 valves. I have always wanted to put a 12 valve into a 73-87 Chevy. Figure when I have my own place and the money to tackle a project like that then I'll do it.
The 47RH isn't a bad trans especially if its built. Even a stock one is not bad if it's driven normally.
