I thought all Duramax trucks came with block heaters. They're "optional" now in a $70,000 truck?!?!

I have a Mercedes diesel that didn't come standard with a block heater. All you had to do to get a free one though was to ask for it within the first year of ownership. Nobody ever did so when I bought it I had to pay for it. I don't think that is good business practice. All diesels need a block heater at some time.

Got it back today after having the leaky shark fin fixed.
They also replaced the side steps due to the chrome peeling off them.
Quite surprised how clean it was when I picked it up.

Finally replaced the fuel pressure regulator. Not as terrible as I was expecting, but definitely not fun. Surge is gone, and I’m getting accurate and consistent balance rates finally, so it was well worth the time.

After 2 weeks, finally got my truck back from the shop yesterday. Got new tunes from PPEI, TCM tuning, tie rods, wheels/tires and the AC charged. While it was there I decided to have them do the glowplugs too and a few of them snapped off in the head. That's why they had it so long.

Got the first service done on Friday and then made a trip up the mountain to Reno, NV Saturday. Really quite pleasantly surprised how well it ran up the hill pulling a small motorcycle trailer.

As I was leaving and sitting at a stoplight I was looking at the last 50 miles stats and saw 25mpg/24mpg ave. I was pretty happy with my truck and the trip up into the mountains and snow and when I looked up, what do I see? That i am not the only one sitting at that intersection in a white 3500 Denali!!

Overall trip stats were pretty good considering on the way home I had to do some business in Sacramento (traffic) and then make my way through the SF Bay Area traffic to get home.

The one crappy part of this trip was the fact that I saw that diesel in Reno NV was about $0.80 different than the SF Bay Area where I lived. So despite being able to make it home on the existing tank, I got smart and did a U-turn to the TA/Mobil station and filled up. Thanks California....sigh.
