. . . . . . . .
How many miles did your Duramax have on it when your stock steering gear went bad? Or was it damaged in an accident - damaged from oil leak...? What? The reason I am curious is I need to budget for future maintainence...curious about that to expect (at the moment my stock steering is fine - precise...not a sports car...but at least as good as most modern cars !)
I bought it with 180k on it and I’d say it was probably going bad at the time, since my steering has always been the same until now haha. Whether it was wrecked before me I have no idea. I didn’t start paying attention to it until fluid started leaking out the bottom of the box shortly after changing my pitman arm. I’m guessing when I upgraded all my front end parts it finally showed itself.

I would love to install one. Mine has 195,000 on it and it causes the steering to wander.

Zero wandering now! Like a whole new truck, never knew what fresh steering felt like apparently

Changed the oil..........Rotella T6 5W-40

The FIlter ....................Baldwin 1221

And lubed the front end...........Lucas Red n Tacky

While lubing I tried out my new "Slide on" grease gun head. I thought it would make the two Zerks that point straight up and the one on the Idler easier to grease.

Its CRAP! Even when fully on it just slides back and blows grease all over the top of the Zerk instead of in the joint.

Picked up a Banks Auto Mind 2 on the cheap from a local Craigslist dude.

Fixed the speedometer from the larger tires and installed the economy tune to see what MPG it provides

I love the lock n' lube grease nozzle, plus the moog idler grease fitting extension is a must.

I love the Lock n Lube too. I haven't yet bought the Moog extension mostly because I may then get lazy and I like to drip the skid plate to inspect the idler and the steering box.

I agree, getting the lock n lube on the idler is a PITA but it is doable. After a few "Choice" words I always manage to get it on there.

I do not see how a worn steering gear can make our trucks "wander"
How could you not?

eagerly awaiting 6686L’s reply.

“My” company Silverado: XM receiver stopped XM receiving so I installed the old one from my wife’s old car. Called XM to change the service over and they wanted $15. I told them if that’s the case just shut it off, and while they’re at it shut off the other three. Immediate change of policy, now switching is freeeeee
