Just changed the oil and filter for the 3rd time Mileage is at 7632. I filled the DEF and truck is averaging 737.3 miles per gallon. Found that the OM is wrong concerning the air filter P/N. Calls out for AC Delco A3231C but thats for a 3500HD etc. This truck takes an International P/N 2518540C1 and its about $80 if I can find one.
Found out the governor is set to 75MPH for the Goodyears but the speed rating for them has been raised to 87MPH. I ain't driving this thing that damn fast-- sure would be a handfull if a tire or driveshaft let go-- especially if the trailers were on the back.
Hope all the veterans have a great day tomorrow-- Thank you gentlemen and ladies for your service.
Another GM snafu: found that the OM shows a AC Delco fuel filter TP-1015 for this truck. After I removed the cannister found out it has a filter bigger than the 1015 in it. It is a Parker 33858 but that doesn't show up anywhere I can find. International P/N is a 2515892C1. None available and none show up at Navistar/Internatinal parts suppliers.
Put the old one back in-- Guess I have to wait according to the GM parts guy at my dealership. He is still waiting for parts he ordered over 35 days ago.
Dealership and regional medium duty fleet rep for GM didn't know the parts in the OM were incorrect nor why they have to find out from a customer.
On the upside-- old filter was clean as a whistle but it only has 8K on it.
Finally got a new fuel filter but had to buy the whole filter/housing assembly just to get the new filter inside. $122.00. GM dealer here says the main parts center stocks the assemblies but not the filters separately. What a cluster!
Serviced the DEF-- Averaging 1000 miles per gal.
Local dealer finally got an air filter ordered for me and 2 days later it arrived. $108.03 each and hecho in Mexico. P/N for GM is 19405680 and the Navistar # is 2518540C1, but that # doesn't show up on the internet anywhere.
I have approx. 16.5K on the truck now and still waiting on block heater bulletin (like I will need it in Texas), went to the shop once for the regen update and once for R/H front wheel speed sensor replacement, and had the steering box replaced within the first week. That's it-- no other problems at all.
We are pulling an 8 horse trailer at about 18-22K(depending on # of horses on board) with no problems. I use the tow/haul and turn on the brake but I leave the trans in D not M like some have suggested I do and I let the computers do their thing and determine which gear to be in for what I'm asking it to do. When pulling the weigh above we average 9.3 to 10.4 MPG and DEF is running about a gallon for every 6-800 miles when pulling and over 1K when running empty.
Only change I am mulling over is changing the front jounce bumpers to the one UTengineer was looking at.
