This thread from the trans section answers the ? quite well. I asked much the same about T/H increasing / lowering line pressure. This answer makes ALL SORTS OF SENSE when you think about the HEAT caused by the unlocked convertor. Anyone who has ever ran race cars with high stall race convertors knows how much heat is generated in just 8 or 9 seconds with a loose convertor. With the torque of a diesel and pulling a load,, I wont tow without T/H any more.

WELL Worth the read

Here’s something to check into, if you have pretty much any of the Edge Insights you should be able to contact Edge and ask them to make available the TCC SLIP pid.
I know of one that laughed at this, but It’s better than not knowing anything about what’s going on with the converter while driving.
This pid was offered on the first gen Insight, I was able to have Edge included it on my CTS when it came out, then my CTS2.
When just driving w/o TH and the converter not locked slippage runs around 300-500 heating things up, when the converter locks driving 0-50.

Looking forward to read that thread Marv, and I'm gonna try and find the slippage PID DRC.

Thank you.

The TCC SLIP will only be available by calling Edge on the phone requesting to have the pid added.
If they will, they will email you directions with what you need to do, PC and fusion is needed.
I had to contact them a few times to be able to get it on my CTS2, the first couple of times the answer was this can’t be done.

I’ve had Edge products since 2003 and did some beta testing for them on my 03 6.0, I don’t know if this eventually helped for getting a pid that I wanted to have on my last call.
I do have this pid on 2 other devices that’s not being used both under my desk.

I'll see what I can find out about TCC SLIP availability for me on my edge insight CTS I got in 2012.

Yes, like turning OD off.
RPM’s to low when towing not good on the engine, and all temps.

A little example, first pic is in drive setting at a street light.
2nd pic is in drive in 5th gear converter not locked.
3rd pic in drive in 5th the converter is locked.

When you engage towhaul the converter locks after the trans shifts into 2nd gear, TCC SLIP is around 0-30 when driving.
When in towhaul converter locked the trans shifts a little firmer, rpms go up a little higher before it shifts, kinda like they did many years ago when you added a shift kit.

The converter stays locked in 6th gear with TH engaged, the problem is the rpms are a little lower towing which causes temps to rise.
Maybe if your going about 90 mph in 6th your rpms might be above 2200, but still isn’t a good idea, I know I wouldn’t want to be on the same section of highway.

Thanks for the explanation with pics. Edge told me on the phone yesterday morning in no uncertain terms that TCC SLIP pid was simply not available for my particular truck. They pointed me to the transmission temp pid and the GEAR TCL pid. I have the GEAR TCL pid now up on my CTS, and I watched it yesterday as I drove some 40 miles on the highway.

Yesterday I also had a transmission shop test for codes on the transmission, and nothing showed. The only codes were insufficient EGR Flow detected (po401) and EGR feedback signal out of range (po404). I'm checking on these now.

Your pid choices look good for heavy towing. Unfortunately some of my pids are currently speedometer, fuel remaining, rpms, because the panel on the truck stopped working a long time ago. I'll probably get that fixed now that I'm paying more attention to my truck.

It’s possible with your year truck the TCC Slip is not available, I had to call Edge multiple times before I got someone that would add it.
This pid was standard on the first gen Insight.

The CTS has 3 screens available where you can have something like 20 + pids you can view.
The CTS2 has 2 screens where you can have up to 16 pids to view, you just swipe your finger across the screen to change screens.
This is the screen below that I view most of the time.
Then you also have “Injector Balance Rates” to view, if you don’t already know.
