Truck noob hitch question

What do I have here, a 2.5" hitch with a 2" adapter in it? Truck noob, sorry. Trying to figure this out. Bought the truck used. With my hitch hardware, I can't get the pin all the way through to get the cotter pin to slide in.

Thanks

That is a 2.5" receiver with a 2" adapter in it. It looks like you need to buy a larger and longer pin for it. Most decent auto parts stores should have someone knowledgeable that can get you what you need.

Thanks. Are those adapters usually loose, the pin holds it in place? They aren't welded or anything right? This one might be rusted in to place. I'm looking to tow about 10,000. As you can see on this label it's rated at 7,500lbs so I wonder if I need to go up a size and remove that adapter.

This is a 2011 3500HD.

So I guess my question is stick with the stuck in 2 inch adapter and get something like this:

or try to get that adapter out and go with something 2.5 inch?

Any thoughts?

Yeah just go to 2.5” shank and be done with it.
