Cone strainer/filter on valve body??

Hi guys, new here and I have a serious question. I have an 07 classic 2500hd I just pulled the valve body on and installed a transgo Jr shift kit. After putting it back together and pouring the old oil into bottles I found a little cone strainer/filter. Looking at breakdowns I believe it is number 22. I've already started the truck and ran it through PRND a couple times but have not drove it. Have I done any damage by missing this piece? How important is it? And if I tear it back apart to put it back in, where exactly does it go? It's hard to tell by looking at the breakdown. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
