My '06 has 12k miles on it. At about 9k I noticed that after shutting the truck off I would hear the turbo spin down and it sounds almost like the bearings are going bad. It's not loud at all and can only be heard if its quiet outside. I took it to the dealer and they said it was not unusual and not to worry about it. They brought a new truck in the shop and set it next to mine and shut it off for comparison. I could hear it spin down but nothing like mine. Has anyone else noticed this noise?

If someone has an '06 or '07 could someone let me know if your truck makes no turbo spin-down noise at all? I'm worried this is not normal an it's going to come apart soon... thanks in advance

I havent noticed but then again I am around bigger trucks with way bigger engines and turbos all day long so my hearing is not so well anymore. I do hear a squeeking sound like a slipping fan belt when I shut mine down, but havent heard the turbo wind down.

Thanks to everyone that responded. It's good to know that this sound is something normal. This is my first diesel, in fact the first I driven. I made the mistake of thinking my '02 GMC 2500hd with the 6 liter gas engine could pull my new 10k lb. 5th wheel trailer here it the mountains of Colorado. I'll never buy another gas engine truck again.

If the noise you hear is coming from the turbo area it could be the variable vanes on the '06 turbo. Know if you think it's from the front it is the fan belt. Their is a TSB for this and the dealer will install a "clutched" alternator. Some folks had great results with replacing the belt with a Goodyear Gatorback.

I've got that sound too. I thought the sound was more like a jet motor winding down. I'm more concerned about my detonation sound since I've installed my programmer.

noisey turbo

Well, if you want the sound - take 2, 1/2 inch ball bearings and put them in a empty coffee can and swirl them around the bottom of the can..... then you'll have an idea what is sounds like.

:rof :D :rockin Awesome!!

FYI... I put a straight pipe and a intake on my truck and I really dont notice the turbo being any louder. However, Technicaly it will void warranty but if your dealer is cool then they might let you get away with it. Honestly once you take the cat off the first time its easy to put on again for "dealer" visits.
