Most likely you have bad batteries--over charging from the alternator suggests that a battery is shorted internally and the alternator is trying to bring the voltage up.

The Duramax has two batteries, and they are connected together to make one BIG battery. It takes a lot of amps to turn the the high compression engine over and build sufficent rail pressure. Be sure to replace them in like pair, if they show bad after testing. Be sure they isolate the one being tested or the test will be invalid.
