MY BOSS JUST got this truck from an auction, runs well for 20-30 minutes the quits. wait 1 hr it starts and repeats all over again. At this time no codes show and one mechanic wants to
change the fuel pump. In my experience pumps do not act like this and I suspect some sensor does not like the heat. Comments appreciated.

Welcome. Would be helpful if you can provide info about your boss's truck, like year, options etc. I assume it's a diesel, but mechanic who "wants to change the fuel pump" may not know that a Duramax doesn't have a factory installed fuel pump, unless he is referring to the CP4 high pressure injection pump.

Think you need to hook a scanner to it while it's running and watch things that effect injector pulses and look to see if something is happening that shuts down the injection process. I'm certainly no expert but I believe there may be several things that could do this. I certainly wouldn't start by just assuming that the HPFP will only work for an hour at a time.
