I have been looking for a 3/4 ton to pull my new RV. My 1/2 Denali 6.2L is doing the trick but I'm butting up to the payload loaded up with trailer, fam, dogs, etc. Haven't definitely decided I'm gonna buy anything and have been going back and forth between gas and diesel. Did find a 2018 GMC 2500 Duramax but it has 200K miles on it, bone stock. The price is post-COVID right...right around $30K. These prices are still crazy. Good service records. 1 owner truck. Last diesel I owned was 6L Power stroke. Loved it....when it was running. Anyway, any thoughts on that mileage/price from you fellas who have been running these things?

That's a pretty good price if the truck is in good shape. Is it a private party or dealer sale? I would pay for a CarFax on the VIN just to make sure it's truly a "clean" title. Best part, you get the L5P Duramax with a 6spd Allison!

Welcome to the forum.

You mentioned you currently owned a Denali gasser, what is the diesel you're looking at. GMC 2500, people on here will be able to give you a better idea if they know the trim level also.

Going from what you have to the l5p you won't know your trailer is there. Even going from the 1/2 ton to a newer 2500 gasser would make an improvement.

No, it's not private party, it's at a dealer. It's pretty clean SLT. Thought about it a bit and think I'm going with a gasser. I don't tow that much...as a matter of fact, I don't drive that much when I am not pulling the trailer (work from home) and my son will be driving the truck to school as well. I have had a few 6.0L 1500s, the old 1500HD trucks with the 6.0L and 4L80 and they where great trucks. Think I'm gonna go with the gas. I also found a 2017 Chevy 2500 SLT with the 6L....also about 200K but in the mid 20s. Both will have repairs with that kind of mileage. Lot less cost with the 6.0L/6L90. outside of towing the RV any other driving will be short trips around town. Don't think the diesel will like that much. Kinda gun shy with mileage on the L5P and my experience with the Ford 6.0 Anything you think I'm in missing?

Well, may end up being the L5P. Looked at the 6.0L. It shows nice but there is some suggestion on further that it lived a pretty tough life as an off-road recovery truck. I'd buy it for cheap, real cheap, but not gonna pay what they want.

There are going to be other 6.0s out there, just because the one that you are looking at doesn’t work out that shouldn’t push you back to the L5P. For your use a 6.0 would be a much better option.
