I have a 2011 Denali HD after the first oil change at 4200 miles it developed a knocking/ticking noise coming from the drivers side not sure if I need to change oil brands or if I have a more serious problem. The dealer where I had the oil changed put Delo 400LE SAE 15W-40....This noise was definately not there before the oil change, I am almost embarrased to drive it trough the bank drive thru :help

duramax tick. goes away pretty soon after oil change. but since your under warranty go see the dealer. document the noise in case you DO have issues later on down the road. you have a history then to refer back to with them.

Funny how LMM's were taken off of the bulletin....and it came out well before the LML. Mine is more than a typewriter tick...mine sounds like something stuck in a metal fan.

I was reading on this issue a couple of posts said they put a quart of
Lucas oil stabilizer when they change their oil....any thoughts on this
my mechanic recommended not to do so since the tollerances are so tight
this noise is driving me nutz:mad::mad:

There is a post on diesel place about additives, according to there viscosity testing it is the worst additive (marvel mystery) you can put in your engine, it actualy reduces lubricity.:booboo

I have the same problem. I purchased a 2011 2500 HD back in November. After 350 miles I noticed a ticking noise. It only notice it after the engine has warmed up. If this is something that is considered normal then this will be my last Chevy diesel truck. It is ridiculous to think that this is normal. The sound is annoying, especially when you are in a drive thru and you can barely hear over the noise.

It's a Diesel. If you buy a Ford, Chev, or Dodge they are going to tick. The new Ford's have the same complaint and if you think a new duramax is loud go hear a cummins.

Just got a 2011 Chevy HD3500 Duramax. The Silverado book says it was filled with "Dexos" but the LGH and LML Duramax Diesel supplement book says to use API CJ-4 oil. There are no stickers under the hood near the dipstick/oil fill to indicate either. Anyone?

My 2011 duramax started this after my first oil change and the dealer gave me the sheet explaining the knocking. What a crock of Sh*t!! $62,000.00 for a truck and I have to pull up sounding like that? This is my second duramax the first one didn't do it. I understand it won't harm the engine but how trashy does my LTZ sound Rollin around clankin? Kinda pathetic. I think everyone should get together and contact GM as a group and see if something can be done to correct this. We pay too much money to deal with slop!!! My truck only has 6,000 miles and this noise is crap.

wow I can not believe people buy a diesel and have no clue what a diesel is
silverduramax you might as well sell it because its a DIESEL LOL
all currant diesels use cj-4 motor oil or higher (synthetic)

There is a definitive differance between a diesel "knock" and the duramax typewriter tick.........I talked to a guy who parked next to me at a autoparts store who has the Tick, mine does not......with them running next to each other ther is a differance......

I'm pretty sure I have acquired the knowledge and understand perfectly well what a diesel is. But what I don't like is for a diesel to also sound like a lifter is about to fly out. Just because it's a diesel doesn't mean it should sound like crap. Pretty sure I didn't log on to here for any ones opinion on my knowledge of a diesel engine. If you like your truck to sound like it has a bad injector or something you should get ya a ford they sound like a bucket of rattling nuts and bolts.

I am thinking you have something other than the usuall tap from lubrication event. It never sounds as bad as a failed injector. Have you got any sound clips to post up.

The way I see it, everyone has proved it to be okay... And most said it goes away after a little bit. Just relax, crank the stereo, and enjoy a cocktail once you get home!

Maybe I just haven't noticed it, but my 2012 3500HD doesn't have the noise. I did an oil change at 1800 miles. My 6.0 2003 made a bad ticking sound. I always thought it was a bad lifter.

Comes and goes, usually more pronounced after an oil change and gets quiet again after 1000 miles or so. If your not anal and stand there listening for stuff you won't really notice it.

Mine ticks after oil changes and quits once I get a 1,000 or so miles on the oil............

Don't let it bother you.......................
