a guy around here just had all this work done and blew a rod right threw the block after dynoing his 6.7 cummins at 665hp idk about torque. now i know theres some cummins haters on here but dosent that sound a bit low for there motors? i thought cummins had some of the strongest bottem end?

Just like all engines there are bad batches of them. I have seen multiple stock 6.7 that have broken rods and punched them through the block. It isn't very common but it has happened. The 4 I know of were all made in the same month and year but I can't remember what the dates were.

I've seen lots of twin turbo 6.7 throw rods. 12 valves are the ones with the strongest bottom ends. After that they started using powdered metal rods

Hell my buddy made 965rwhp and run's 11.30's on fuel only here in AZ. Stock 5.9CR bottom end

i guess the 6.7s are weaker than the rest of em lol. still sucks he had quite a bit a money tied up in the truck

My money goes on crap tuning, etc.. the 6.7 is a very strong motor but a crap setup or tuning still kills them.
Was he running a smarty with stupid timing ? What turbo? High DP?

FWIW my buddy blew a head gasket at 20,000 miles on his 6.7 with a 100HP smarty jr..

The 6.7s are known for blowing head gaskets. But a lot of it goes from crap tuning with ridiculous drive pressures
