Hey guys and gals!, I’ve re-entered the forums. I bought a used 2015 Duramax in 18 and lifted it and put a mild speedo hyper Tech tuner on it. Still has all the Government’s emissions jewels on it 😑
They might fall off.
Long story short, I month ago I started getting a message about low quality DEF. I went straight to the nearest Walmart and put it in blue def platinum.

A few miles of highway driving and it went away.
couple weeks went by and I got a bunch of codes about water in fuel,(which there was none because I checked it after I drained it)
I got everything from ECM codes to PCM codes…
Probably from me temporarily unplugging the def and injector and exhaust temperature sensors.
I fully drained the def tank, Visually inspected the injector in and cleaned the very minor crystallization, and put half peak blue DEF and then topped off with peak blue def platinum.
My speed is limited to 65 about to be 55 until 4mph.
I’ve checked all my fuses and cleared codes and I’m still just getting poor DEF quality.
I have read and thought about replacing the downstream and upstream nox sensors, but that’s a pain in the butt in about four to $600 if I do it myself and what if it still doesn’t fix the issue?
I was getting a P049B or p249b along with fuel in water sensor and different nox codes high input detected.
Even got some ECM and PCM codes that could’ve been from unplugging a bunch of sensors.
Anyone having these issues and finding a solution? I can’t afford to spend thousands on repairs.
If I take it to the wrong place they might try to sock it to me.
I can do a lot of repairs myself but I don’t want to just be replacing sensors and parts.
Anyone have any advice? Please help😢
Thank you so much!

Hello there and welcome.
There are actually several people on this forum who have issues with the platinum DEF. Peak blames GM and GM blames Peak.
At the end of the day, most of us have chosen not to run the platinum stuff. I head to a local busy truck stop and fill up from their pumps. A lot cheaper per gallon as well.

I didn’t have any issues with platinum for a while.I’m not saying it wasn’t the problem, in fact, I hit a few truckstops and then the new Buc ee’s, the buccees might have been my problem. Or buccees and platinum.
The dealership told me they had many people complain about that issue after leaving Buc ee’s. It’s weird because the first time it happened, when I topped off with platinum it went away. Might have been a fluke.
I just topped off with 5 gallons after draining and I hate to have to drain it now. I wish you could hook a siphon tube on to the outlet tap and drain it, haven’t tried that but it would be nice to do that and then limp to The truck stop and pray that it would solve the problem. I’ve also had a lot of people tell me that when they were working on lmls but nine times out of 10 it was one or both of the nox sensors. I’m running out of miles and I hate to go buy nox sensors and it not fix it🙁

Ah ok, well, I don't have an LML manual to cross check your codes, but if you found out they relate back to the NOX sensors, then that truly might be the issue. I've read a few times that they take a beating in this trucks. I think I'm going to go buy some spares for mine.

It stopped throwing anymore codes after I cleared them. Only the unclearable poor def quality and speed limiting countdown. Maybe it is just the platinum needs to be replaced. I’ll start there first and try to let you know what I find. Also a youtuber showed a hack removing the speedo plug from transfer case so you could at least putt in 3rd gear if you get stranded to 4mph. Hope it works. Enjoy your Sunday 🤓

Thank you. Had a shop run a diagnosis they said it was my rear nox Sensor.
I just replaced it with a brand new AC Delco and I’ve got 15 miles until I’m shut down to 4 mph. I don’t know if I need to go buy an expensive diagnostic tool and force a manual regen or reset something or unplug the batteries for a minute. I’m sad😞
Wanna delete w exhaust but I don’t know who will work on them if I really need it in the future
