Afternoon,
I wanted to pick your brain, I am new to the forum and appreciate the knowledge you have.
My truck started to get a P026D code I did some research on the internet and this forum, what I found was that I needed to replace my MAP sensor. Ok that was easy, I did that and the code came back in 2 days (less than 50 miles) I pulled it again and cleaned it, all ok and reset. came back in 5 minutes. I then did some additional research and I found that I should replace my fuel filter. So I then did that, mind you it said that I still had 20% to go before replacing. After replacing and resetting the fault(disconnected both batteries) the check engine light went away. I drove for 600 miles and it returned. At this point I am stumped, took it to the the local GMC dealership and they are saying that I need to replace my injectors.

Here is the kicker, this truck has 62,000 miles. it just came of extended warranty. Now they want me to spend $6500.00 to perform this repair.

my thoughts are that it is not the injectors at all, my truck does not smoke, misfire, burn fuel, anything. It runs perfectly fine except the check engine light.

I am looking for any ideas or experience before I drop that kind of money on a repair.

thank you in advance for any feedback you can provide.

Ask them to explain exactly why the injectors need replaced. The service bulletin Ron Nielson pointed out it specifically tells them "not" to replace the fuel system but to flush it.

I asked that question, they said that dirt and debris got in and now they are fouled?
They came back and said that they (GMC) will pay a portion to replace. However they still want me to pay $2700 as my portion. I asked what the guarantee is that they won’t come back and say it’s something else after and they won’t say that it will be taken care of. I honestly just feel like they are being parts changers. I will share the bulletin with them and see what they say. Thanks for the insight.

I think Id ask for scanner data to actually show that they are "fouled". Sounds like a a bunch of sh_t form a dealer tech who cant do real diagnostics on a diesel. And for that matter why NOW are they willing to eat a portion of the cost.

Condition

Some customers may comment that the MIL is illuminated.

Some technicians may find one or more of the following DTCs set in the Engine Control Module (ECM):

P0087: Fuel Rail Low Pressure
P0089: Fuel Pressure Regulator 1 Performance
P0191: Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor 1 Performance
P026D: Injection Quantity Too High
P1089: Fuel Rail Pressure Performance During Deceleration Fuel Cut-Off
P163A: Control Module Fuel Pressure Regulator 1 Control System Circuitry Performance
P163B: Control Module Fuel Pressure Regulator 2 Control System Circuitry Performance
P2293: Fuel Pressure Regulator 2 Performance
P228A: Fuel Pressure Regulator 1 Control - Forced Engine Shutdown
P228B: Fuel Pressure Regulator 2 Control - Forced Engine Shutdown
P228C: Fuel Pressure Regulator 1 Control Performance - Low Pressure
P228D: Fuel Pressure Regulator 1 Control Performance - High Pressure
Cause

This condition may be caused by corrosion or damaged at the fuel pressure sensor electrical connector.

Correction

Inspect the fuel pressure sensor electrical connector for corrosion or damage.

It may be necessary to use a generous enough amount of dielectric grease in the connector to reach the entire terminal and use J-35616–16 (LT GN) terminal test tool and drag the tool up to 10 times to find/identify corrosion or fretting.
Note: When making the final connection of this electric connector to the sensor, please apply dielectric grease prior to installation.

If you see a suspect terminal, it may be necessary to removal said terminal and inspect for corrosion, damage and/or signs of the dielectric grease starting to turn black.
If any of the conditions have been found, replace the electrical connector.

Injectors fall under the 100k Powertrain warranty. The dealer replaced mine at 86,000 miles in December of 21. I paid nothing.

But I would just run some hot injector cleaner, tow something heavy and call it good.
