Hey I’m new to the forum and , I’m new to diesels and have owned a ram 1500 for the past 14 years. I’m not a rich man by any means so I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on what kind of code reader/ diagnostic tool that would help me repair any issues that may arise in the future, such as programming injectors or any other thing. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the site, enjoy the ride.
If you spend a little time searching you will find lots of information about preventative maintenance, fuel additives for daily use and for cold weather, oil brands and viscosity, oil for cold weather 5w-40 and the standard 15w-40. It comes down to how you choose to take care of your truck and the brands you choose to use. Some problems are not avoidable. If you kept your Ram functioning for 14 years you are probably good at taking care of your vehicles.

Thanks for the quick reply, I try to make my trucks last can’t afford not to. I had this current truck 2 days and it popped up a trouble code for #5 injector and put me into limp mode so had to take it to the dealership they covered it since i had just bought it. But it still took them a week and a half to get back to me. It ended up being the connector and not the injector. Which I think is a good thing.

Welcome to the forum. I have the same truck. I went with an Autel MS906Pro scan tool. If you keep an eye out for sales, you can pick it up for about $1,000.

Injector connectors are a common failure around 100K. I have replaced 2 of them so far. They both failed after long road trips, and both on the way home. Its annoying that a $40 connector can throw the truck into limp mode and cost me a $500 tow bill...

FWIW, the favorite scanner of South Main Auto on YouTube is Autel. He also uses other brands because no one scanner will do it all, but he's said on many occasions that Autel is his go-to scanner. If I were buying a scanner, it would be Autel.
