2020 GMC L5P 2500 Denali

So after driving a 15 LML for 5 years (bought in apr 14) I have been waiting on the new body style to come out. Have been looking in Middle GA for about a month now and finally this Denali came in to a local dealer.

First Denali I have owned. This truck is 1in higher in the front compared to the LML stock ride height. It came with 34s but I had the dealer swap my rims and tires out and will put a 34 or 35 back on it when these 33s wear thin.

It is a bit of a stiff ride but I will be throwing the rancho's to the side and going with Fox 2.0 Monotubes again and sulastic shackles. This setup along with Cognito UCAs and their keys made the truck ride great!

Several non-powertrain mods are in order: tonneau cover, window ventshades, brighter LED low/high and fog lights and some others.

Has anyone had any luck using Android Auto? I am using a Samsung Note 8 and cable (that works to charge phone). The truck does not recognize the phone for some reason. I am going to try a different cable tomorrow and see if that works.

Denali only interior is 'Dark Walnut/Dark Ash Grey'

'Jet black' is also available on all trims except AT4

AT4 gets 'Jet Black with Kalahari accents'

Denali seats are 'Forge Perforated Leather-appointed'

SLT and AT4 are 'Perforated Leather-appointed front seats'

Bakflip mx4 is the only thing I found that fits.
Thanks, it is one of the tonneau's I am considering. I loaded the ones that are available to order or pre-order into our store the other day. Retrax and Undercover. Will get the BAK ones loaded tomorrow along with everything else that is currently available.

Thanks for the pics, looks great! I thought about new rims but these are still in good shape so I didn't see a reason at the moment to make the switch. If I can help you with choices, let me know.

Andriod auto works fine with my galexy s8.
I fixed it last night with a different cable. For whatever reason the cable that I can charge with will not connect but I pulled a spare out at home and it fired right up. Now to get EZ Lynk setup so I have gauges again. Can't tune it with EZ (yet) but it should come in time.

Great Looking Truck! My first post here but am picking up my 2020 Denali White Frost tomorrow. FINALLY can go back to a Duramax!! GM moved the DEF Tank!!!! Going to put on tougher tires for the ranch in SE NM between Pecos and Carlsbad and a couple of sizes bigger and found out from GMC the axle for the AT4 is the same as the Denali and I like the White Frost which is NA on the AT4.

With this new 2020 model will be seeing a lot more out there. DEF tank punctures scared off a lot of people :) me included. My 18 6.7 Platty Ford has been a nightmare for just 35k miles. Cannot wait!!

Welcome to DF. Congrats on the truck. Be sure to post up some pics of it.Pretty sure it is a 20 but I have had these for 5 yrs now so I will have to look deeper. Mine will mostly be on the road so I am not too concerned about the DEF tank.

Module that controls the radio, Nav etc -- APIM failed once and is acting up again well known issue across entire Ford line.
Water Pump Failed
#3 Injector failed 2 weeks ago
Problem with Injectors? again makes truck shake like a dog passing peach pits is off and on lower power. Will not throw a code. Dealer is stumped. I drive a lot on the highway in remote areas our ranch is 28 miles from town (Carlsbad) cannot have a unreliable truck..
One big rattle inside the frame that they cannot fix--that is non mechanical though
Front axle yoke seal leaked

Not pretty but hell it is only money right? :( 'dunno;

Sorry to hear that. That sucks. What year and how many miles are on it?

Are you referring to Carlsbad NM?

Yes NM SE of Carlsbad. Ranch starts across river about 400 yards north of the Texas Border. Truck is a 2018 F250 Platty 6.7 with 35k. It is 14 months old.

With every new truck we learn new things. Here is what I learned this morning. Looking to go with brighter LEDs for driving and fogs, I checked to see what bulb they use. Unfortunately, GM has molded these bulbs right into the light assy so you can no longer just replace a bulb, you have to replace the whole assy. Before you say BS, I looked twice and called a local GM parts house to verify. They are molded in and the hole assy has to be replace when they go bad or if you want go brighter, LED mfg are going to have to start making the whole assy. UGH. I am all about being able to see good at night. While the LEDs are bright, they could certainly be brighter, especially the fog lights. Guess I will be waiting on aftermarket light assy to go brighter. In the meantime, the intellibeam high beam lights works well switching between high and low beam when the truck detects an oncoming vehicle.

Next, the transmission. So as you know the 2020's come out with a new Allison 10 speed tranny. Looking under the truck today to check things over, I noticed there is no external filter like on the older 5 and 6 speed Allisons. Hmm. So I continue looking things over and notice I don't see a trans dipstick. When I looked under the hood, same thing I could not find a transmission dipstick. A check of the manual states it is not usually necessary to check teh trans fluid level. (I beg to differ) The onlyl reason for fluid loss is a trans leak or overheated trans. The vehicle is not equipped with a trans fluid level dipstick. There is a special procedure for checking and changing the trans fluid and should only be conducted by a GM service specialist. Blah, blah, blah. Somewhat disappointing. GM recommends the Dexron ULV Trans fluid.

While looking the 6.6L Duramax Engine Supplement over, I took a quick look at the service recommendations. Here is what I found to be recommended:

Oil and Filter every 7500.
Fuel filter every 22500.
Air Filter, Transmission service every 45000.
No mention of differentials whatsoever.

My plan for the L5P Powertrain is to swap over to AMSOIL full synthetics when the time comes. Engine oil and filer first. Was looking for a place to install their BMK27 oil filtration bypass setup like on my older Duramax's. Previously we were able to use a aftermarket bracket made by Madjack Diesel. Going to be working with them to see if we can get another bracket for this application.

Thanks for the insight! Already have a few cases of Amsoil Signature Series I just bought for my Ford that was traded and will be switching out this weekend. Or whenever the EA series oil filters get here.

On the Tranny I just do it from the lines going to the cooler. Replace with Amsoil -- you can see the fluid change color very slightly then you have gotten most of it out.

Looks like GM is making it harder and harder to do Mainternce outside of a dealership.

Yeah I agree. They are definitely trying to keep the DIYer from doing their own work. Time will tell.

So we have taken a couple days to load out our store with what is currently available for the 2020s. While the list is small right now, we are seeing new stuff added from our WDs daily.

Check out our store here.

This is what we have ordered or done thus far that is non-powertrain.
40% Solar Guard tint on sides and back windows
Nearly clear Solar Guard tint on the front windshield
Banks Power Idash 1.8 Datamonster
Fox racing shocks
Sulastic shackles

Powertrain wise
PPEI custom emission compliant tuning through an ECU swap and HPTuner device to flash it.

Still trying to figure out which tonneau cover I want to go with. I have used Lund tri-folds for years but thinking I might try something different.

What are you all thinking about doing? Let's talk it up and see if we can help everyone.
