4wd shifter flopping around

I have a 2001 25OO HD GMC Sierra that the 4wd shifter is flopping around and wont stay in one spot. It was driven in 4wd just fine yesterday, and today when I got in it to drive across town this was happening. My first thought is broken linkage, but not totally sure. Ideas?
