2005 GMC 4x4 diesel 2500HD 25,000 miles.

Driving along and the AC goes HOT:help..... DID IT 8 DAYS AGO AND THEN maybe 4 days ago. only twice so far. First time I thought it just went bad or lost a charge. Figured I was gonna take it to the dealer for a checkup. BUT, when I got back into it it worked fine. Then maybe 4 days later it happened again, but not in between. :help any ideas????? Thanks, TJ

Sounds like it is time for a re-charge. I would not take it to the dealer. Take it to an AC shop. They should be cheaper and more equipped to test the system.

Charge it. Not only does 134a cool the car, it also lubricates the compressor. If there is not enough coolant, the compressor will not kick on. It's a built in safety feature so you dont burn up the compressor. I would also have them do a leak test.

check to see if the passenger side is blowing cold. My truck did this and if you turn the ignition off than back on it would blow cold again. Bad drivers side actuator. My guess.

So how cold does your a/c get in your truck? Does it freeze you out? What temp is it outside when you use it? My a/c seems not to be working the greatest it blows cool air and thats it. The temp here has been anywhere from 95-100*

If it was mine I'd put one can of freon with dye in it. Pressure is low or it wouldn't be coming on and off. You can find the leak this way and the more informed you are the less chance of someone taking you to the bank. The "tool" to put it in is cheap. Pick up at any parts store. Fairly idiot proof too. Can't put it on wrong one. Big line is low pressure and small line is high pressure. You will be using the low pressure line. It's probably an o-ring on a connection. Easy and cheap fix that some people with take advantage of. You could fix yourself if this is it. You can waste 1 can of freon, a sweep it's called, to purge the system and fill with the #'s listed on the firewall and you're good to go. Done it many times. If you're comfortable with it, go for it. Won't be out of much if you fail. Do a goggle search on air conditioner sweep and you should get complete details.
