I am looking to install an aftermarket power steering cooler on my 2008 C5500 6.6 Diesel. The power steering and hydroboost braking system get extremely hot.

Has anyone installed a cooler? if so, which one?

Thanks,

JME

I would've thought the MD trucks came with one. It was an option to add on our HD pickups.

You can try and source the OE parts (some are in the link below), and pay more $$. A simple universal transmission cooler kit ($30?) will work.

You'll be bypassing the steering box low pressure return line, out to the added coil in the front, then returning the fluid back to the pump reservoir.
Coil, hose, clamps.

Fairly easy mod, with a great return on $$ spent. Adds more fluid volume to the system too.

Not familiar with the MD, but it's probably similar to ours on the HD.
You'll want to freshen up the fluid too.

Original PS return Line 5/8"

Thanks for the quick reply. I purchased a Hayden Cooler and mounted it in front of the intercooler.

I will need some additional hose to connect to the original return line. The original line is 5/8" whereas the line on the fluid cooler is 11/32"

The power steering system also operates the hydroboost brakes so I wanted to make sure using such a smaller line would not inhibit anything.

Thanks,

The HB has it's own return line.
Not sure what, if any, effects of 3/8 vs 5/8 on the steering box there might be.
