I got this idea from a post in anthor thread. The guy had said that he took the lid off of his stock air intake and gained 2 mpg. Just wondered if anyone else had tried this. With either stock or aftermarket. Does it really work? Or if your MPG is as bad as this guys was is anything bound to help?

most people "swiss cheese" the airbox on the bottom...I think it is just wishful thinking for it to work. I didn't gain any mileage by installing a cold air kit and 4" exhaust.

I agree, I wouldnt remove it maybe drill some holls in the bottom. My new AFE intake has a metal lid on top and without it I would be affraid of the filter getting extremly dirty from sucking dirt that the fan and motor circulate. My buddy has a AFE intake in his LB7 and there is a gasket on the top edge of the box to block off stuff from the motor.
