:thumbSo, I get on here frequently and always am envious of these personal threads that everybody makes. Build threads for the most part. Now I don't take that many pictures for a detailed build thread so that's why its not a specific build thread but more of a history and where am I now thread. Mainly for me to keep up with my truck, but will be adding modifications as I go and taking more pictures. ( I promise!)

Here's my LBZ as she sits now.

Here's a directory of modifications, repairs, or general bs to date on the truck and the links to the post :thumb

Ive got sleeves and the dhd steering brace as well. When i run i drop my front end down to where the cv60axles are almost negative.

Where you leveled before the shackles by adjusting the torsion bolts? I was thinking about going the shackle route so i can lower my front end normally and still have a leveled truck. Massive rake only looks good on the track or in the dirt. Not daily driving. So i figured with shackles id be level but can 4wd launch!

When I bought the truck the stock keys were fully cranked. It actually sat higher than the rear. My leaf springs are shot so I put air bags on. If I left my airbags fully deflated I would pretty much be level with my 2" shackles. I run 7lbs in the bags tho for a better ride

What brand of shackles did you go with? And did you install em yourself?

I did bell techs. I installed myself, it was a bitch but glad I got it done.

Got the gearbox on today. Went pretty simple. I got the box early summer from Hicksville Auto Recyclers. Just got around to putting it on though. Things went pretty smooth. Only hiccups were i couldn't get the intermediate shaft seperated from the lower steering shaft so i removed the lower shaft from the gearbox with it still on the truck, and the used pitman on the gearbox had different threads. Other then having a bit of trouble with the lines there were no other issues with that.
I also flushed my power steering fluid, changed the oil, changed the fuel filter and tried to bleed the brakes but the front caliper breeders were frozen in there. I got one to loosen up but couldn't get any fluid out of it. So i will be ordering some new bleeders and trying again another time.

After the gearbox and flush the steering feels real smooth now. Made a big difference. Now that i got it out of the way i can focus on go fast parts again!!! :gearjamin

Washed, waxed, and detailed the truck for the winter this weekend. Cleanest ive ever gotten her. But lke always, Mon-Wed we are supposed to have only rain. 3 inches they are saying. Itll be a good test if the wax i guess. Here's some pictures.

And my favorite things in life. My beautiful wife, my best buddy, and the truck.

So ive been dealing with my dim led problem for a while now, and ive searched and searched and found little information. I did however find out that the reason why my leds are full power when a door is opened or the truck is unlocked, but very dim when individually switched on is due to the "brain" of the truck. I believe its the bcm. The led's dont draw enough current so when the bulb is switched on by itself, it does not receive a full 12 volts. Same for the cargo light. But when energized with the rest of the bulbs at once, (by the dimmer switch, door, or unlock) they have full power.

For me to have the leds have full power i have to switch on one of my rear map lights for a second (which had the same issue but i soldered on resistors to the festoon bulbs) and then the front map lights and cargo lights recieve full power. It tricks the "brain" into believing there is not an led there but a stock bulb. Once it believes this, the "brain" audibly clicks on ( under the dash), and the lights, including the cargo lamp in the bed have full power. Even after the ignition is switched off until the "brain" sleeps. Once it goes to sleep, the leds will need to be re-energized to have full power again.

So after a bunch of googling and tinkering with a multimeter i may have found a solution to this issue. If this works i will post a write up and include it in my build thread. Should be a simple, cheap fix. Going to tackle this hopefully Saturday.

I also plan on swapping my steering wheel to a wheel with controls for the radio and dic. Hopefully thatll be happening here soon as well.

#348 ·
With my LED map lights, they will come on bright with all the others on (door open). If I just push the switch they are dim. If I open the door or turn other non LED lights in the same circuit on they will go bright. If I turn off the others, they will dim again.

It is definitely the BCM not sensing enough of a draw to give full voltage. Thanks for posting your experiments and results.

#349 ·
Well if this works like i think it should then that problem will be no longer.

#351 ·
Never noticed that tell now, thanks!! :GrrRRrr

Yeah i guess it is. Just looked at it and yeah it is a tiny bit on the driver side and a bit more on passenger side. Also my cab isnt even on both side either. It sits further over to the passenger side. Maybe only a fraction of an inch but its not flush. I could probably use some cab mounts but mine i believe are the updated mounts. Not 100% sure.

Just another thing to mess with now. Ive looked into them before too.

#353 ·
Yeah it does. Honestly i like how the mirrors look with the angle on the gmc's.

#356 ·
Yeah ill have to do something about the cab here soon. Also im the black sheep i guess, i like the angle the mirrors have.

Anyways i went ahead and tried the idea for the lights and things went smoother then expected. They work great now and are no longer dim. As a plus the cargo light is no longer dim. It recieves full power whenever i turn it on now, without having to power on a rear map light first or anything. I am going to post a write up in the diy area and on my build thread after i give it a day or two to make sure there are no complications but i don't see any coming from it. I am very excited.

This weekend I also switched out my rear shocks. I had an issue with one of my rancho rs9000xl where the adjuster broke. I contacted rancho about buying a replacement adjuster and they opted to send me one no charge, and after exchanging emails they insisted on sending out new shocks and warranting the original shocks. Great customer service. I will never buy shocks from another company. They went above and beyond. I love the fact I can adjust my shocks. Also went out today and bought some more used tires. Hopefully will go up to the old job and throw em on tomorrow.

My brothers buddy was talking smack saying his 6.7l powerstroke would beat me in a race. He is stock as far as I know. He just got the truck and knows nothing about it, its his first diesel. Anyways heres a video of us racing.

Tuned LBZ vs 6.7L Powerstroke

The last race I gave him a headstart, when I passed him I was doing around80-90 I think and he was doing about 65 he said. I couldn't stop spinning off the line. I wish I turned the camera around too.

#360 ·
Lol good race, goes to show how strong 6.7s are stock, but take a stock LBZ with a little extra, and BAM

I ran a stock 6.7, and I had a 40hp tune on at the time, we were close, real close

#361 ·
Yeah i know. And he was on 37"s. He suprised me with how quick it was just stock.

Maybe gonna buy a lift pump over the weekend. Probably gonna go with a fass... but we will see.

#362 ·
Bought a lift pump monday. Went with the new airdog 165 4g. Now i am gonna hopefully get some more things going. I got some bulbs coming for the turn signals. I probably am gonna get a deezee tailgate assist here soon and i wanna mount an led light bar on the front and maybe some in the rear as well. I may wire in some floor lights on the inside of the cab, and maybe some lights in the rear door reflectors like the front but we will see. Looking for some more things to do for the truck too hopefully soon.

#363 ·
I have often thought about doing the rear doors. They are just reflector lenses in there from the factory. You will need the whole lamp holder unit from a donor truck or an aftermarket replacement lamp. The power should be an easy jump from one of the other lights.
Lift pump is always a good idea.

#365 ·
Gonna try to go to the junkyard tomorrow and look for some things. Ill check for the lenses and lamp holder tomorrow if i go. And yeah ill watch it before i install it to refresh my memory. Its been a few years since i installed one.

#366 ·
The front and back are the same size, just that the back ones are just the lens part. If you grab 2 front ones, all you will have to do is wire them in to the interior lighting circuit. Just time consuming.

The link to the video came in to my email from ATP today. Just thought I'd pass it along.

#367 ·
Ok, ill have to look for that. I figure i could probably tap into the circuit in the front door and see if i can run it under the door sill and up the pillars into the rear doors. I may do that. I saw another thing about footwell lights and how to add them. I may do thay as well. And thanks i appreciate it.
