:thumbSo, I get on here frequently and always am envious of these personal threads that everybody makes. Build threads for the most part. Now I don't take that many pictures for a detailed build thread so that's why its not a specific build thread but more of a history and where am I now thread. Mainly for me to keep up with my truck, but will be adding modifications as I go and taking more pictures. ( I promise!)

Here's my LBZ as she sits now.

Here's a directory of modifications, repairs, or general bs to date on the truck and the links to the post :thumb

Yeah i got the sexy wife, great truck, great first house, and the beginnings of a great dog. Im glad i started off this young cause now yeah i may be in debt early, but i have this much longer to enjoy the greatest things this lift can give you. And thats family, love, and happiness!

I try and look at it that way, but life always throws its curveballs in and sometimes its hard to see it like that. But gotta keep on keepin on.

Anyways just ordered some more optilube. I got the XPD, Winter Additive, and XL Extreme. I been trying all winter to do a fuel additive test, but its been hard to keep variables under control with colder tempatures one day and not the next. But i am still gonna do my best and try and get a good additive test in with winter fuel. Its gonna be a couple weeks for i start the test as i wanna install the air filter and a oil change and new fuel filter and then start the test but ain't do for that for a couple thousand miles. I will also be testing other additives i can get my hands on as well. Itll take sometime but hopefully give a good test of these additives. In the meantime i will keep things updated hwre as best i can though. And for sure when the summer fuel comes I'll try and do another test.

Got my additives today, gonna run a base test or two with an additive and then install the new white donaldson. Then will change the oil and fuel filter and will start using all the different additives. I keep all of my results in an app on my phone as well. Hopefully i can actually preform a valid test here.

Thanks bud! Been slow lately but trying to get some things going with the truck again.

#126 ·
Well just filled up wit Howes, gonna run two tanks and them change the air filter, run two more and then change the fuel filter and probably the oil too. Then after those two i will run 3 tanks of winter additive and then 3 of xpd. Then I'll add in some of the XL lubricating additive and run 3 winter and 3 xpd again. After that depending on tempatures i may get some Standayne and run power service too but if they switxh back to summer fuel ill start testing on that.

Thats the plan at least. I figure 3 tanks is a good average in case i drive a bit more city one week compared to another.

I have an 06 LBZ with 270k miles and 305s, I get 22mpg towing about 10k and 27mpg highway with no load. I credit this 100% to my dsp5 tunes, lift pump and EGR delete. Its amazes me how my truck can get the same or better mileage that a lot of my friend's sport sedans, and still stick with them from a dig. New filters are nice and all, but thats the only way you're going to get what you really want, and you don't need a built trans to do it. All you need is a good tuner and a lift pump.

#130 · (Edited)
Not possible, these trucks are not capable of 27 unloaded, let alone 22 towing. Hell some of us cant hit 22 while empty. I bet your reading off the dic and those arent correct after tuning, hell some ain't correct from the factory. If thats hand calculated you got something wrong there because that isnt possible with the aerodynamics of these trucks and the weight.

Also I didnt get this truck for mpgs, i have my wifes kia for that. I got this truck for my love of diesel and power. And the built trans isnt for mpgs either. It'll be for hotter tunes for the track. :thumb

But like i said before, those mpg numbers are not correct bud. I also have one of the best tuners out there, and a lift pump does noy improve fuel mileage. It only supplies fuel to the cp3 and corrects low rail pressure issues. A lift pump Wil not effect mpg unless you always have low rail pressure.

Very best I seen was 22.5mpg on a 70 mile trip one way after the truck was already warm and I believe the temp was right around 50s or so.

My average mpg is around 17. That's going to and from work with a cold truck. I have about a 23 mile one way trip to work and only about 1 mile before I get on the highway to work and 1 mile before I get on the highway to head home. My garage is lately has been around 35 degrees inside though. This is on winter fuel and I don't consider this bad. I drive about 66-68 mph on cruise as well.

In the summer I was doing 80mph on 285s and was getting more then 17 but ill have to wait tell later this year to see what I get at a more suitable speed for best mpg.

#133 ·
Well then I didn't realize the DIC was that far off. Before tunes I was around the 17-18 highway, now I'm never under 20 at any time. I took a video on the way home, highway driving average around 60 due to weather, steady 26mpg the whole way, and the speedo is dead on. I don't bother to hand calculate, but I've gotten a good 500+ miles on a tank more than once. I included video so y'all can't call me crazy. Oh, and its about 30* out.

Here is the highway driving from dinner tonight

I wasnt trying to come across as an dbag if i did bud. But yeah the dic becomes skewed when the truck is tuned for some reason. Even stock form they are proven to be off. The best way to tell mpg is hand calculate. I don't think your crazy either. I'd love for my truck to get 27 unloaded. Hell thatd be amazing!
And i always hand calculate. I never used to but once i started i am always curious as to what I'm getting, and i can't give it up. Haha

#137 ·
True that. ^

Anybody know anything about the "frame beaming". I wanna order me a set but I ain't sure if this comes with only 1 side or both sides for 43.

Thanks man. Yeah i was looking on there and didn't know if i need two cushions or if they came in a set. 1 for each side.

Also if it makes you feel any better, my normal daily driving I've been getting 10-11mpg. Its a 1 mile trip and the warm up time and stop/go kill me.
I used to have a real short trip too and got shitty fuel mileage. I dont necessarily care about my mpg that much, but i figured id do a test on which additive nets the best on my specific truck. Because i remember looking for additives and not coming across a real world mpg test on our trucks. The DieselPlace additive test is good, but is outdated and doesnt show mpg numbers or how it effects the trucks runability.

Update

Little update, been playing around with editing the videos together and got the clips from the main videos out. Now i gotta stitch em together and add a song. Didn't wanna add a song but without it, there's alot of dead audio spots and where snow was hitting the camera. Hopefully can work on it more the rest of this week too.

Also, i plan on buying a lift pump here this month if i can catch a good deal on on. Tax return sucked this year so we will see if I can scrape up enough money for one, may buy a downpipe too but i kinda like how she screams at WOT. :)

I found a lift pump

I know ATP is running "Diesel Madness Days", might wanna keep an eye on those sales in case a LP pops up

On my previous lb7 i had an airdog and never had issue with fueling. The motor quit running and airdog sent a new motor out, turned out the fuse was blown so not sure if the motor was bad or not. Thought i checked that first but must have forgot. Anyways its probably really between the Raptor and Airdog, but since i already have the cat adapter i figure i dont need more filtration... just positive pressure to the cp3.

ADII 200GPH, you know just to be future proof:thumb

#156 ·
Well over the weekend i gave the truck a much needed wash. Also cleaned the inside and waxed the exterior. I clean the truck about once every few months so it took all of 5 hours for everything but boy does she look good now.

Also was thinking about getting the lift pump, but the gearbox is leaking pretty steadily now and rather fix that first, so unless they have a smoking deal on a lift pump, I'll probably hold off tell i fix the gearbox. Man i wish i had more money and less bills.

#157 ·
Is this normal, i made a thread too about it.

#158 ·
Any recommendations on what steering gearbox i should replace my leaky one with?
