:thumbSo, I get on here frequently and always am envious of these personal threads that everybody makes. Build threads for the most part. Now I don't take that many pictures for a detailed build thread so that's why its not a specific build thread but more of a history and where am I now thread. Mainly for me to keep up with my truck, but will be adding modifications as I go and taking more pictures. ( I promise!)

Here's my LBZ as she sits now.

Here's a directory of modifications, repairs, or general bs to date on the truck and the links to the post :thumb

Well finally did some stuff to the ol girl this weekend. I have been due for a fuel filter for a bit now, so i switched from the CAT filters and got a Donaldson P553203. I actually may start running this filter full time since it does have a water drain valve. I also took my nerf/step bars off and removed the plasti-dip as it was peeling. I sanded, primered, and bed lined the bars. I think they came out pretty good and should hold up alot better then plastidip. Anyways, here's the pictures of the process and the day.

Also just noticed my trans or tc is making a weird squeal wine st any speed. More speed related then rpm related.

The old CAT Filter

Didnt get a picture of the filter before going on. A word of wisdom, When using this filter you have to remove the pink/light brown colored o ring on the cat adapter and swap it with the Oring that comes with the donaldson. Otherwise you will have loss of prime issues.

My buddy helping me sand off the chrome.

Here's the supplies i used minus the sandpaper. To get a good coat i used 2 cans of primer and 3 cans of bed liner. Could probably do another light coat or two but we will see. To get m or texture, the key was doing light coats. Its not very rough bedliner but definitely should hold up better.

To get the bed liner to stick we had to sand off the chrome polish and lay down primer. My bars were in good shape so didnt take to much effort.

Heres mid project.

Also Saturday i laid seed down and covered with straw, wanted to get a picture of the yard but my dog kept wanting to follow so i got him in it too.

Heres the final project. I let em sit for a while to fully cure. It was 72 hours total.

Last couple pics.

Any of you guys hear a whine type noise at highway speeds with the window down? I keep hearing one and i have ruled out u joints and brakes i believe. It sounds like its coming from the transmission or the transfer case. I looked it up and some say its normal, but i ain't ever heard it before.

#199 ·
those bars look good... i'm thinking about doing the exact same thing...

#200 ·
It was pretty simple. My nerf bars were in good shape before so i used 220grit sandpaper and removed the mirror like finish. Then primered and bed lined. Used 1 1/2 cans of primer total and 3 cans of bed liner. The rustoleum stuff isn't very textured and rough as others but I've heard it sprays the best from a can so thats what i used. I did light coats for more of a rougher finish too. Should hold up better then plastidip, but no way to tell its bedliner unless you see it up close.

#202 ·
Yep no problem bud.

#203 ·
How did you like using the rustoleum? I've been thinking about doing my molding, fender flares, and running boards with it..

#204 ·
I liked it. Was just like using spray paint, light coats and stay away from the object. I did short bursts the entire time and each coat was after a couple minutes.

#205 ·
Thanks, I guess I'll be picking some of this up soon, I noticed today my boards are starting to get spots on them.... Looks good too!

#206 ·
Thanks bud.

Just called up Hicksville Auto Recyclers and ordered a used steering gearbox to replace my leaky one. I'm also gonna replace the idler and pitman arm as well. Then got an oil change coming here soon too. Figured I'd update this ol thing.

#208 ·
Well i got the gearbox last week. Gonna be a couple weeks before i put it on. Gonna go ahead and replace my idler and pitman arm while i am into it all. Probably will go with just Moog parts.

Anyways, I'm due for an oil change and wanted yall's opinion. I been running Amsoil for as long as I've had the truck but lately seen stuff about Delo400LE, was curious if there really is a difference in the two as far as quality is and performance of the oil. Anybody know?

I been thinking about throwing a black tip on my exhuast instead of my chrome one to match my step bars. I taped mine up to kinda get a look at what itd be like.

What y'all think?

Or

I kinda like the black type tip personally. Also washed, clay bar, polished, and waxed her yesterday so I'll throw them pics up here later. She feels smoother then my windows on truck.

#212 ·
I think its the angle of the pic yall. My exhaust is pretty tucked in behind the rear wheel and under the fender.

Is that where y'all like your exhaust to be?

#216 ·
Yeah i like it just like that as well. When i initially cut it I almost thought I went to short, but its definitely good where its at.

Anyways, I think Im gonna go ahead and order a black exhuast tip and see if it looks good or not. I think it'll match the step bars pretty good.

Im a fan of exhaust behind the rear wheel. I like to look as stock as possible, and i know a tip isnt very stock looking though, but the 4-5" keeps it pretty tame looking.
