:thumbSo, I get on here frequently and always am envious of these personal threads that everybody makes. Build threads for the most part. Now I don't take that many pictures for a detailed build thread so that's why its not a specific build thread but more of a history and where am I now thread. Mainly for me to keep up with my truck, but will be adding modifications as I go and taking more pictures. ( I promise!)

Here's my LBZ as she sits now.

Here's a directory of modifications, repairs, or general bs to date on the truck and the links to the post :thumb

Does the underside of the truck get a layer of soot?

#222 ·
Maybe one day I'll dump it. For a long time I thought itd be cool to have an electric cutout to turn my exhaust into a straight pipe at the flip of a switch.

#223 ·
I dumped mine, and put a new black 6" tip on it. I hated it at first, the drone on the underside of the bed was almost unbearable. That is, until the inside of the tip was coated in a good layer of soot after a few weeks of driving, and now I love it. It really brings that beautiful LBZ turbo whistle to life on all sides of the truck. Mine is white, I haven't washed it in at least a month and you can barely see a bit of soot on my tailgate, and I've got clean tunes.

Like you, I put to use a good number of rattlecans on the underside of my truck. Over the last few weeks since its been warm and dry I've done my frame rails from front to back, rear axle, leaf springs and front differential when I had it resealed. It is by far the most satisfying stage-0 mod I've done.

Is your exhaust straight piped? I have a muffler on mine still to keep the noise down until i get on it. Then she'll scream pretty loud. And i still need to coat the underside of the truck with some protective paint.

Im not sure if I'm gonna like the tip, so I'm just gonna order a cheaper black tip and see if i like it.

It's not the soot what you have experienced is a loss of hearing... :rofl
Yeah its straight piped, with my manifolds it sounds just like a regular v8 until my vanes start fluctuation. The drone I was referring to was just the reverberations off the new aluminum 6" tip, definitely not an audio sensory issue. Once the layer of soot gets on there it just rumbles, or growls more like, I love it. I don't do it often, but when I stand on the go-pedal she screams. I had a 5" tip out the side for a few months but I didn't like how I only heard my turbo whistle on one side, it was almost alien to me when I did. Now I set off car alarms in parking garages just idling :rof

One day I wanna do manifolds and an exhaust cutout, I think it'd be really cool.
You oughtta take a video of how she sounds dumped in a parking garage!!

Cleanest the LBZ has ever been!

So here's a couple pics of before and after I washed, clay bar'd, polished, and waxed the truck.

Before

After

I used all Meguiar products. The Clay Bar kit, and then there pro line of polish and wax. I used the Clay Bar kit first, I thought my truck would really need this, but the bar didnt really take off much contaminants as I thought could be on the truck. Then I used the Polish, Meguiars Mirror Glaze Professional Show Car Glaze #7. Then Meguiars Mirror Glaze Pro Hi-Tech Yellow Wax.

The truck has never felt this smooth. Feels smoother then the glass after I cleaned it. I figure maybe once a year ill treat her like this. Otherwise ill just stick with a good wash and maybe some spray on wax stuff. I love the feel of the truck after I do all that work, but even after a day it has a fine layer of pollen or dust already sticking to it. Ah well.

So i have an end goal for this year. And that is to get my truck into the 12s with stock turbo, cp3, and injectors. I have been saving money for a bit and got the ok from the wife to get the trans built before we start a little family.

I will be building the trans, adding an intake (which may come here next week), and a lift pump. I would like to see mid 12s but would be absolutely happy with a 12.999 run. I've been looking on youtube and theres quite a few trucks with only built trans seeing mid 12s. My only issue i have is I want the truck to be reliable as well.

Once the trans is built i don't plan on romping on it all the time. Just the occasional run at the strip or pull on a "closed course". But i know to get in the 12s with stock air and fuel will be pushing the stock charger. Is it possible to have longevity and reliability with built trans tunes?

Oh man itd be cool! One day hopefully!

#233 ·
Got me an intake today! Found a smoking deal on a Banks Intake i couldn't pass up. Came with an extra filter as well.

Won't be going on for a while, I am still in the process of my fuel mileage test. Also have an action camera on the way and gonna play with that for a while too so videos will be coming of that as well. Im excited yall!

#234 ·
Hey man. Try to run 65mph on your way to work. See if that 3mph don't improve your economy. How much ya give for the new intake?

#235 ·
I might do that. Right now i been running 68 and doing a fuel mileage/additive test and gonna keep it thet so i don't change the results. But once this is done I'm gonna try that for sure.

#236 ·
I suppose once all the mpg testing is done then you gonna throw that intake on. I know everyone says the stocker is good for 500hp, but I still want a s&b..

#237 ·
Yep exactly, and then switch back to 285s since my tires are done for but i wanna finish the test. And yeah they say that but when i go full throttle and check my air minder it shows 50% vacuum. Even with 2 different minders and 3 different filters, one of the filters being brand new it still shows some restriction. So what i think is I'm not getting enough air flow and an intake will really help.

#238 ·
Here's something funny. Since I switched to my 120hp tune, I have noticed my rail pressure is about 8k running 55mph, flat road. On my 100 hp tune it would run about 9k frp. So I'm thinking we'll heck that ought to improve economy. Time will tell.....

#239 ·
Let me know bud!

#240 ·
Well gonna mess around with my new action camera i got. Its called a SJCam SJ4000. Should put some videos up after the weekend y'all.

#241 ·
You got any videos ready to post up yet man?

#242 ·
Im going to buy a better mount tomorrow morning and will go make some. This camera is sweet! Not as good of mic as the gopro but the quality of video is alot better and smoother! And alot cheaper. Ill try and throw some up tomorrow night.

#243 ·
So im debating whether to continue this fuel additive test. It was easy in the winter but now thats its summer i dont consistently drive just to and from work, and since i got the camera i been playing with that as well. I also have a banks intake i want to install and am switching oil, so more variables are coming into play. I am thinking about just putting together my results that i have so far and posting them up. I will continue to switch additives but each fuel tank will be a bit different and not as consistent as the winter was. I just wanna get this intake installed and am way overdue for an oil change.

Also Still have to get some good videos. Just been playing around with settings. This weekend for sure ill get some that i can post up!

#244 ·
After looking at my results from testing, it is quite scattered and about halfway through March i believe my fuel station switched to Summer fuel. I'm going to have to wait to continue this test until next fuel tank. I have to change my tires as mine are bald. Also will have fresh oil and a Banks Intake. Then i will try the testing again since i shouldn't be changing anything else for a long time.

#245 ·
I think I started getting summer fuel a good while back too man. Slap that intake on. Post up some pics and vids!
