Talked w/ a dealer last week & spec'd out an order. Said he had to wait for an allocation this week to place another order??

After reading a lot of the 2022 order experience thread I can tell this could be a long process.

Thanks!

No. GM has not opened the 23 ordering yet.

My order placed on 5-10-21 for a 21 was pushed to a 22, and still has not been built.

I bought a truck someone else ordered and backed out of as I needed something right now and am still waiting for mine to be built.

Normally the next model years do not start till August.

but we are not in normal times

yes it will take a long time to get this truck

7/18 is possibly start of 2 week shutdown at Flint (used to always be the last 2 weeks of Jul).

This would make sop for '23 model the first week of Aug.

Vacations...and scheduled maintenance.

Both at assembly plant and at the 1000's of supplier plants.

I spent a bunch of years in manufacturing/plant engineering for several Tier One (direct to GM and other OEMs).
We ALWAYS used the summer shutdown (and Xmas shutdown) for maintenance/modification of equipment and tooling that couldn't be done during weekends or shorter down periods.

When stuff is running 6 or 7 days a week even the stuff that only takes a few days can get postponed.
Not doing planned shutdowns for this type of work can lead to 'unplanned' shutdowns.

Breaking these jobs down so they can be done in multiple shorter periods of time is not always possible.

All that said, it's possible they aren't taking a shutdown this year....

I had ordered a 22 late last summer and fleet company I was dealing with lost allocation and had to wait for 23. I was able to build a 23 last week and it’s roughly $4000 higher in MSRP than my 22 was for the same exact options (Sierra 2500HD white AT4). Said they should start production in July. Asked him when he “thinks” it might get here and he said maybe not till early 2023. Well now I’m in a pickle. If it doesn’t get here till next year it won’t be but 6 months later and they’ll be taking orders for the 24 refresh. But it may be literally 2024 before I get it so I’m not sure what to do. I hate getting the last year of model of any vehicle and the new Duramax sounds pretty nice. This whole process has been a mess. Reason I went with the fleet company is there were decent discounts. The only AT4’s out there on lots are priced way over MSRP from what I searched. Maybe just get the 23 and order a 24 and trade in later on. I would think it’s gonna be a bit before this supply straightens out. I know one thing I am not trading my 2015 LML in. I’m keeping it till it starts having issues.

not sure where you are but Laura Buick in St Louis shows 6 at4 2500's in stock starting at 78k. I'd be willing to bet if you do some research you will be able to find one out there. Not sure if it will suit your budget but it would age better then waiting till next year

I also have looked at both GMC & Chevy "Inventory" on an almost daily basis for the last few months. Seldom find the configuration I want that isn't "in transit" and if it is on the lot, a huge markup... Finally just came to grips with placing an order for '23 & then trying to be patient for the next 3, 6, 9+ months depending on what happens w/ production, chips and or other "constraints"...

So.... pretty frustrated today. Been working with a dealer (not super close to me, 4 hour drive). But supposed to be no markups (locals are all over that) on orders and has been pleasant & understands why I'm ordering & not jumping on a few trucks I keep seeing in inventory that are close to what I'm looking for. Anyway, waiting for an allocation to free up since there were folks ahead of me.

Pretty clear about options I wanted 2500HD Denali, blue, S bed, NOT ultimate, technology package, NOT 5th wheel prep. Trailer tire sensors & that's pretty much it... nothing else & MSRP is around $83,800. An expensive outlay on my retirement & part time work income.

Try not to be a pest, check in every 2 weeks... suddenly last week. Your order is in, TPW of 8/22! I'm like woo hoo... Ask for order # & a confirmation of my configuration. Last night (many days later) I get an order # via short email. Reply to email asking for configuration again. Check on chat, Event 3000 already!! But can't tell me option details just 2500 denali short bed 4x4.

Today I finally get an email w/ order information... damn thing has Ultimate package, 5th wheel prep & several other things I was pretty clear I DID NOT want... oh, and the order number doesn't match the one I got yesterday?!? WTH?!? Get on chat again, this is also at event 3000 and according to chat person, no changes can be made after reaching this point?!?

Dealer did NOT want a deposit & at this point I'm pretty glad of that... why is it so difficult to give the customer what they want? Oh & I'm not amused about the required 3 years of onstar/data REQUIRED on all new Buick & GMC as of June. Not everyone needs that crap. 30 years in IT, the last thing I want is to surf while I'm driving, phone connection is more than enough. Also kids are grown/out of the house & this is NOT a commute truck. Probably drive once or twice a week on errands & pull boat/jet skis or move my bobcat to my brothers place once in awhile to help him out and eventually get a trailer to take my car to autox instead of driving it & having to swap tires etc for setup.

Okay, rambling rant over... pretty much ready to find another dealer & move on/start over. :(

I spent a couple months looking for my truck. I tried using the gm "locate a chevy" page but everyone I called on was spoken for. Then I went to google maps for a particular state and tyoed in chevy dealers in "xxxx" state. Then I started at each dealer closest to me first. Almost all of them had markups from $2500 to $14000. I finally ended up at Davidson-Gerbardt in Loveland Colorado. They had one "in transit" but not spoken for. They also had $0 markups so I put a deposit on that truck. They provide a "forever powertrain" warranty that is valid only at their dealership...UNLESS....you buy an extended warranty which makes it nationwide as long as I own the truck. And since I use state farm, they sold it at cost which was $2600(or so I was told). So when it was delivered to the dealer the wife and I drove our 1500 up there 960 miles one way, picked up the truck and within 50 minutes were headed back home. In total it was a 31 hour turn and burn. All the numbers the salesman gave me via text were exactly the same in person. They didn't try to sell me any extra fluff either. Then about a week after they called me and said "Hey you remember that $1000 deposit you paid over the phone? Well we forgot to put it in the deal so we owe you $1000." So I gave them my debit card number and it was refunded right then. I totally missed that on the pickup day and would have likely never known. I feel like I got a good deal at MSRP and they were as honest as they good be. I would definitely recommend them and I will go back there in the future. It was worth the 31 hour 1920 mile trip.

so, is it just me or something?? Found a truck on the web 9 hour drive. Available & has pretty close to what I want optionwise. Its 9:30 AM. Asked to make a deposit in order to secure the vehicle. "oh, sales manager has to to that"... Ok. But does he call me, no. I call again late in the afternoon. Ask for sales manager... he's busy with an appraisal & has another call on hold. You can leave a message. Still no call, now almost 11AM the next day?!? Do they not want my $ or have I angered the new car gods in some way??

You're handling that better than I would. Never had to talk to the sales manager to put a deposit down on a vehicle. Usually the sales manager is so elusive you don't know they exist and trying to talk to one only ends in irritation.

I'd play dumb and call back in and ask if the truck is available and if not ask when it sold and compare the dates.

Sad to say it may be bait to get you in, But I'm sure if you drive in there the salesman won't care how far it was and will be glad to sell you a different truck or order a truck for you because you just missed it rather it was actually there or not.

Good Luck

I had sorta the same last summer only a used 2020 with 5k. I called and someone was supposed to call me back. Decided in the next hour that this was likely the one. I called again and waited on hold for the salesman. I got his email and cell phone. Took a couple hours but by two he knew I was serious. He called me at three and told me 3 others called and one was coming that evening. He was telling me that we needed to do the deal. I put a CC deposit on it did the financing the next day. Day 3 was spent finding a shipper to pick it up.
You got to do everything yourself anymore!

So... after a lot of total BS with several dealers (all 9+ hours away), I got one to "hold a truck" for me while I got my finance papers signed. Several dealers were still trying to do the markups, one I actually reported to GM ($10K markup). The rest I just told forget it... Took 3 tries to get a "sales contract" with total amount for a "cash deal" to give my bank. Never did get it showing for cash. All showed me financing at the dealer, but at least the numbers were clear enough for my bank to write up the loan, gave them my heft down payment & they then gave me a check for the total with a detailed letter to the dealer on how to register the truck with them as lienholder....

Bank really came through & actually got the loan done 4 hours early, loan officer drove 45 minutes to my local branch to sign & I got on the road... 6+ hours later we stopped for the night with plans for a fairly early arrival at dealer with plans to close the deal, then turn & burn home.... yeah right... Even though nothing was going on in sales, made me wait 3 hours (I think to try & wear me down??) Endless forms, the contract (still showing what it would be for me to finance with them??) and endless offers for extended warranties & other BS I continued to decline the whole time. So much for a turn& burn. Now starving from no lunch, hit the closest decent sounding place for food & headed towards home. Stopped for the night again as the wife was pretty cranky at this point & I was fried to a crisp... Next day, home finally with a truck pretty darn close to what I wanted. I'll post pics sometime soon, she's dirty of course & it's not a priority today.

Oh and I did end up with a chevy high country, the Denali order(s) the original dealer made (both incorrect by the way), was no big deal for me to back out of. No deposit & dealer was not worried about selling them. I almost hope they end up sitting on their lot for a good 6 months. Honest not all that bitter just disappointed in their lack of customer care.

Congrats on the Truck, it's a shame some dealerships go out of there way to make it a horrible experience. We were fortunate and took right at an hours when we purchased ours. Local Nissan dealership was another story and few years ago, we were the only ones in there on a weekday morning, going into the 4th hour I walked into the finance guys office who was with no one and told him we were done and leaving, turned around and started walking out and magically he had the paperwork ready to sign.

Anywho Congrats and look forward to pic's
