I wouldnt go that high again. Might have to back down whatever tune you have to a lower level. If I'm not mistaken getting above 1450 to much can cause serious damage. My truck when I have the edge evolution race at 60 mph which I think is roughly the same speed was low 700's. That was running a 125 hp tune. When I got on it, it would hit 1500's and even hit 1600 once.

Ever since I went with EFI live just cruising at the same speed mine are low 600's now. Sometimes when its colder outside (50 deg F) its in the 590's. When I get on it though with my 150hp tune, I havent seen over 1350 yet. I saw 1350 on a day that it was 102 deg F out. Even now it may just get into the 1300's and that is with the throttle all the way from 10 mph to 125 mph. One thing to help will probably be a downpipe. Im lookin into getting one here soon...

1375 or 1450 ( can remember which) is constant duty... mean you can hold that all day long.

1200 is nothing! i would keep the truck there all day and not blink an eye.

my lbz went to 1950 everytime down the track when the stock charger was on the truck.

I have seen 1650 on my max effort EFI Live tune and see 1450-1500 on my 200HP tune. But just cruising none of them are over 750. You are fine at 1550 for a short period IMO. If I remember right 1350 constant duty is fine on these trucks.

Melting point of steel is around 2500 degrees. Spikes up to 1800-1900 aren't going to kill it. Don't prolong high temps though. You don't need to reach the melting point of steel to soften or damage it either. The lower the temp the better, yours are fine.

PER General Motors, 1450 degrees EGT for up to 5 minutes, without serious damage, spikes care ok, due to the fact that the constant heat soak from high egts will not be able to penetrate the steel and alumium inside the engine. Running 1400 degrees is able to be done for unlimited. I got that from a buddy of mine who works for a local GM dealership, it's from his technical service bulliton. I run 8-900 constant driving around birmingham, al. where it is hilly. but if i get on it when im drag-racing or sled pulling i easily hit 1400-1450. but that's PPE hot ET +2 with stage 2 turbo, injectors, and a ton more addon's. i wouldnt be worried, but i wouldnt do it every day.

GT3788AV is rated for 1350* constant duty, 1450* for up to 5 minutes, anything over that is unknown. Many here have buried a 2000* pyrometer before reaching the end of the quarter. They do this many times without issues, though it is for only a few seconds.

You'll be fine. It took me well over 100 quarter mile passes at 1600º+ to melt a hole in a piston. One or two times here and there aint gonna hurt it.

I agree with the 1450 for less than 5 minutes, at work we dyno and drag race our trucks constantly. We have seen as hot as 1700 in our Duramax. Brief spikes above 1450 should be okay, we haven't seen any ill affects of running hot for a few seconds to complete a dyno pull or 1/4 mile run.
