I installed my exhaust manifold today and I wanted to comment on a few things.
1. I really didn't realize just how restricted the stock manifold is. I have seen all the pictures on line, but when you see it in person it is obvious how important this mod is to do. I am an old school hot rod high performance guy, and I know that air flow is everything. Be it diesel or gas. An engine is nothing more than a big ass air pump. The stats that I have read say that the stock manifold performs at about 80% of the passanger side manifold. Well that tells me that the drivers side is working 20% harder than the passanger side. Which means unwanted (unnessisary) wear and tear. Yes the manifold is a little pricey but in the long run, wouldn't you agree that extending engine life is priceless?

2 This is an easy install. The instructions that come with the part are very good, but just a few things to help you if you decide to make the swap.
Go ahead and take off your boost tube. The instructions don't mention this, but it is a must.
Loosen up the bolt on your steering shaft. It will help in getting your ratchet behind it to get to the bolts.
When you have the manifold unbolted,keep it kind of low and take it out towards the front of the truck. It will come out, just be patient.
Last of all, you can reuse your old gaskets,so be really careful and don't damage them.

I hope this helps in makeing your decision on the manifold. My exhaust and down pipe should be here this week some time. I can't wait to get this stuff done so I can move on to a tuner and engine brake. :rockin

BD manifold replacement

Just to add that you have remove the 3 bottom bolts on the heat shield for the up pipe, you don't have remove the top bolt -you can move it enough to get the up pipe to manifold bolts out, I also removed the steering linkage for better access . You can access the up pipe to manifold bolts through the fenderwell easier than from under the truck. It took me about 3 hrs to finish .

Good luck Jaguar3500

Can I ask, did anyone actually notice a difference in EGTs or anything? I looked into them and wow....the price really shocked me...seemed really high personally. If I got them, they better work magic.. esp. since I"m only seeing 1000 degrees with my twins.

i don't think you can feel/measure a difference i had plans of adding some up pipes but realized i'm just a few bucks away from a profab kit so if your only going to do one thing i think common sense says do it but if you going any farther get the profab kit. i think thats what i'm going to do.

BD manifold

With hand tools I did this, and the upper intermediate steering shaft in about 9 hours.
Some things that had to be done on MY truck;
Boost tube must come out
Inner fenderwell came out easy and made access a lot easier
Oil filter removed
Remove the steering shafts, top one can just be pushed a little out of the way
Bungie the steering wheel so it doesn't move while the shafts are out, GM has BIG warnings about this damaging the SIR Coil
12 point 12mm socket for the up-pipe, I bought 1/2" drive to handle the torque, ALL these bolts were very tight
Remove compression strut from lifted front end, drivers side
Some things that made the job more difficult;
6" Tuff Country lift, compression strut in the way
Triple shock hoop in the way
Old and fat didn't help either

Test drive proved the intermediate shaft, time will tell on the manifold

can't you use an lml manifold? it's like $75 instead of $300

If I hadn't already purchased a BD manifold a year ago, the IMI would do just fine, and much cheaper. I knew the original manifold was restrictive, but seeing it in person really hammers it home. This should really help cylinders 1&3 see lower temps at high RPMs. If you're competing with this engine I'm sure there are much better ways to increase performance and durability, but for me this is the fix. The way I see it, this'll improve exaust flow while towing up hills at 2800-3000rpm, and probably not help much at cruise speeds or unloaded.

IMI manifold? Haha! Too much work going on around me to text and work at the same time! The LMM manifolds that I've seen look just like the BD manifold. I would certainly buy a new one at the dealership rather than the pricier BD from Jegs. Now... if I don't get back to work somebody'll bust me for sure.

i agree. comparing the two together logic would say the bd is better but i would bet money that you can't measure the gains

Is there a video of the removal and install of this manifold? Mine did not come with a gasket...
