Breather Tube Smoke = New Truck for Me?

Well...... I going to try these pressure diaphrams. For the low price I guess its worth a shot.

If that doesn't cure it, it sounds like I need a rebuild. I thought these were good for 300K?? Should I even bother with the rebuild? Is it worth it just to srcap it and start with a new truck? Whats a guy to do

Man o man. Im having the same problem. 03 w new injectors 1,000 miles ago at 110,000. Mine smokes mainly when warm. Just changed oil, looked good, no coolant loss, runs good and so on. So, the next question would be, will the dealer help since it's possible it could be the injector cups? Or rings? 50/50. Ive been told it's the hg's, rings, or cups. Just had this truck 3 wks. Can't wait for more info.

Yea for the cost of a reman engine and labor to put it in or paying a mechanic you can probably trade it in...
My buddy darkdmax traded his 03 dodge cummins that had a horrible knock in for his dmax and they gave him full price because they never even started the truck
and most likely they will never check your blowby
and you can plumb your blowby tube into your intake tube and it will put a vaccum on the crank case and not allowing blowby to pass

Can someone go to a dealership and request a log of the work done on my truck??? Do dealerships keep that kind of info

What ever came of this? I have an 03 that has just recently started smoking at idle just as stated above. If it is a bad ring I am never going to buy another chevy again. I have sunk more money into this pos than all of my other vehicles combined. Pump rub, tranny leak, pushing 3g's right there, now a junk motor? I sure hope not. Duramax/Allison are supposed to be good stuff, what a joke. Rant over, sorry.

All diesels have blowby
most diesels are not considered "broke-in" until they have 2-3% blowby

The blowby isn't oil burning it is exhaust gases bypassing the rings, usually oil is lost thru leaks or being burnt and releasing oil fumes. And if you are down 2 quarts then you have a leak somewhere, but my 07 70k mile truck looses about a qt every 10k miles

2-3 percent is a light haze at idle

Well, I guess it could be a light haze- around the whole front of the truck. I have two friends who also have d-max's no breather blow by on their trucks. But I have the most miles on mine.
As for the oil, the breather tube is soaked with oil, as well as all of the components around it, but no dripping on the ground.
Thanks again for chiming in.

What year is your truck?
Did the dealer do your injectors?
Because if dmaxs are anything like big diesel engines there is a crush seat under the injector that has to be replaced every time an injector is even loosened so if yours were not seated right or were not replaced that sounds more like your problem

Update & Cure for the Breather Tube

Well guys I thought I would post an update on what I found out. IT ENDED UP BEING THE INJECTORS!! My brother and I replaced all 8 and we clearly see what was wrong. When the warranty injectors were installed over a year ago, when the tech put them in it looks as if he used the keeper for the injectors to seat them down causing them to scuff the oring gasket on two of them. Truley the injectors really didn't fail but the o ring gaskets did. So if you do them yourself, take care in installation. My truck is out of warranty and the dealership that did the warranty work is closed so I guess thats just my luck, Oh well truck runs great!!
