Is it possible to do a decent trans build on a low-ish budget? I am looking for a trans to hold about mid 500-600 hp at max. Or should i keep saving and have to drop $7000+?

I dont want to go crazy with my truck as its and everyday driver and need to to last for a couple years yet.

I could build myself a couple trans on 7,000 dollars. Do a vendor request and see what they come up with. Most will be around 2,500 and 1,000 on install/shop supplies.

The $7000+ is what a shop near me charges to put in an NADP "Race" trans + all the labour and misc items.

Also, Like said above, Can i get a quote on a trans kit/torque converter that will hold the power listed above, if possible.

Is that for the removal and re-install of the trans from the truck? Or is that just to install the new clutches and what not into the trans?

Where abouts are you guys getting your quotes from? You gotta remember im from Canada, where as everything seems to be more expensive. Anyone from Canada know of a good installer/builder for resonable fee?

Shoot it would be worth it to find a well known shop on the North side of the USA and make a long weekend of it and get it done. Most shops can do it in a days time.

Go see Rob in Idaho and he will get you set up and going for way less and they wont be able to nail you at customs because they wont know you have a new built trans.

IdahoRob is probably going to be the closest to you.

For a SC IV it was always between $4,000 and $4,800 out the door from what I had seen. The new GMax looks to be about $100 more in parts.

If you do not plan on ever building you motor, an SC III kit will be perfect. If you do plan on big power numbers the GMAX kit will be what you will want.

If I am going to spend 3-4 grand on a trans-- and want it to last-- I am going to a pro--I could do it my self, but just put one part wrong and the $$$ is in the trash can!

Of course Mike L is only 20 minutes away! No brainer for me. :drink
