Burning Smell

Yesterday after two trips of about 20 miles when I turned the truck off and parked it and got out, I smelled a burning smell similar to a clutch or brakes. The second time I was at home in the garage, so I tried pinpointing it but couldn't. The brakes and hubs were not hot, and obviously has the Allison in it so no clutch! It seems to be on the passenger side more, so I wasn't sure if it has to do with the DEF system. The streets are wet and have a lot of salt and brine on them right now, so I was just thinking it could be that burning off the exhaust. Any other ideas what it might be?

Im guessing the truck was in regen. When my truck use to regen, itd give out all kinds of odd smells. Like before I had my down pipe v clamp re-tighten, everytime my truck was in regen, id get in cab fumes of the exhaust. In the cab during regen it smelled like burning plastic, or burning wires. This only happ when it was in regen. Odd smells can come from regens.

Good to know! It has been in 3 different occasions but didn't notice it tonight. Trucks new to me so not familiar with it yet!! I thought it would tell me it was in regen or give some indication?

Most dont really know that truck is in a regen. Thats the way GM intended it.

The only time you get a indication, (DIC msg "CLEAN EXHAUST FILTER/KEEP DRIVING") is when the truck in not being operated in a manner that allows affective DPF cleaning. If this msg comes on, drive it above 30mph untill the msg clears.

Do you have a parking brake hanging up?

I had the "What the Hell is that Smell" thought too when I smelled the regen for the first time. Worried me until I remembered the regen.
