I made the mistake of using white lithium grease for the trailer to truck lights/brake plug to keep the weather out. Naturally, this is now a crusty problem. What should I use to clean both ends up before I apply electric grease?

I’d try this…

I’ve never had a mess to clean up like u do but I do use this on electrical connections.

I'd start with a spray Contact Cleaner like this one from CRC. It acts like rubbing alcohol in a can, real drippy at first but evaporates really quickly. If there is still crust that needs to be cleaned, a small wire brush (like toothbrush sized) or heavy duty eraser can help scrub down to the metal pins some more.
