i thought this would be a cool Q&A thread for anyone that has heard something about their Duramax that they are not sure may or may not be true. Feel free to submit your own and maybe a lot of rumors can be cleared up. Ill start...

Had a buddy tell me that riding with the windows down all the time will cause he headliner to fall eventually... fact or fiction? :cookoo[1]:

EDIT: i posted in the interior section in reference to my question, but it should probably be moved to General Discussion.

Elaboration:

The Duramax is a General Motors diesel engine family for light-and medium duty trucks, designed by Isuzu. The 6.6-liter Duramax is produced by DMAX, a joint venture between GM and Isuzu in Moraine, Ohio. The Duramax block and heads are poured at The Defiance GM Powertrain foundry in Defiance, Ohio. This engine was initially installed in 2001 model year Chevy and GMC trucks and has been an option since then in pickups, vans, and medium-duty trucks. In 2006, production at Moraine was reportedly limited to approximately 200,000 engines per year.[1] On May 9, 2007, DMAX announced the production of the 1,000,000th Duramax V-8 diesel at its Moraine facility.

Google is the real mythbuster! Lol

As far as the headliner Ive heard that too because it apparently dries it out but I have no facts to prove one way or the other.

Sent whistlin through my turbo.

Bigger tires on your truck make you more manly. Likewise, stacks.

GM designed the control systems for the engine, Isuzu designed the engine. It was a 12 hour time differential between the US and Japan that made it possible to do this in record time. Of course your gonna have problems when you cram 10lbs. in a 5lbs. doghouse, heat is always an issue with the 2006 and prior models, no place for the air to circulate out and not enough radiator for the engine.

I only think the LLY's have had the heating issue due to the turbo mouth piece. My truck has never had issues getting hot while hauling or running down the road. I think the older ones have more room under the hood since the cowl is further back and we have less stuff on our engines (EGR, etc.)

True, sorta.
Headliner falling? No.
But....the intermediate material bonding between the fabric and shell will deteriorate (crumble to dust) much faster, causing the fabric to break free and droop down.

Diesels are cheaper and/or maintenance free.....

The LLY overheats because of the small turbo mouthpiece-- changing to a LBZ one will fix that-!

I call this BS

It made my fan hardly ever to come on and when it did, it was only for a several seconds, then fade. I can only guess this translates into a reduction of heat load in the cooling stack since I hardly ever heard the fan again while hauling.

FYI......

"Duramax engines are manufactured in Moraine, Ohio, by DMAX Ltd. This is a joint venture between General Motors and Isuzu. When originally conceived, DMAX Ltd. was 60 percent owned by Isuzu and 40 percent owned by GM. Today, that ratio has swapped, and GM is the majority owner."

I am using this to say my Duramax was made by GM.
