Confused about torque converter lock up switches

Hey guys my apologies if I'm asking an already beaten to death question but I searched and couldn't find an answer. So what is the point of say a fleece alli locker? The tow/haul button locks the converter from 2nd gear on so what advantages would I gain from having it locked from the start? I'm only in 1st gear for a second when pulling or racing. Would it help my launches out? Sorry I don't have a sig up yet.

It lets you lock your gear in second at WOT. Under WOT the TC won't lock till late 5th gear
